Crescenta Valley Remains Unbeaten in League

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ volleyball team defeated host Burroughs High in Burbank in four games, 25-21, 25-9, 20-25, 25-18, in a Pacific League match on Sept. 5.
Freshman Adelyn Lopez registered 13 kills, seven aces and six digs, junior Caden Pinto racked up 24 assists, 12 digs and five kills, and junior captain Sofia Shin finished with 20 digs and six assists. Senior Emma Santa Ana contributed seven kills, three digs and one block, while junior captain Isabel Haytayan recorded seven kills and two blocks. Junior Hannah Wyroski had seven digs and five kills, junior Eva Portnaya tallied five kills and one block, and senior Cameron Ouye produced 13 digs. Senior Sofia Santiago collected eight digs and two aces, while senior Natalie Avakian was credited with five digs and two aces. Senior Jessica Romero had three assists, two digs and one ace, while senior Sophia Aroyan had two digs.
The Falcons recently swept visiting Pasadena in a league contest, 25-23, 25-12, 25-22, as Pinto amassed 34 assists, 11 digs, four aces, three blocks and two kills.
Lopez racked up 12 kills, two aces and two digs while Haytayan tallied nine kills, three digs and two blocks. Portnaya finished with four kills, two blocks and two digs, Wyroski contributed five kills and two digs, and Santa Ana recorded five kills and one dig. Shin had 25 digs while senior Pilar Garcia produced 12 digs and three aces. Avakian registered nine digs and one ace, while Ouye had eight digs. Santiago collected three aces and two digs, Aroyan was credited with two digs and junior Jamie Shoemake had one dig.
CVHS previously posted a nonleague sweep over visiting Bishop Amat High of La Puente, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16. Pinto contributed 19 assists, nine digs and six kills while Shin finished with 12 digs, three aces, two assists and one kill.
Lopez tallied eight kills, four aces and four digs while Santa Ana had five kills. Shoemake produced four digs, two kills and two aces, Avakian registered four digs, one ace and one assist, and Garcia had three digs and three aces. Portnaya recorded three kills, one dig and one assist, Wyroski collected two digs and two kills, and Haytayan was credited with two kills. Aroyan had two digs, Santiago had one ace and Ouye had one dig.
The first-place Falcons (11-2 overall, 3-0 in league) will visit Hoover High for a league matchup on Sept. 12 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Muir High of Pasadena on Sept. 14.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School junior Aleina Manaois recorded a match-high 14 kills as the Nitros swept Burbank in a Pacific League match on Sept. 5

The Nitros swept host Burbank, 25-18, 25-9, 25-16, in a Pacific League match on Sept. 5 as junior Aleina Manaois racked up a match-high 14 kills with six digs, two aces and one block.
Junior Emerson Whiting finished with 20 assists, four kills, three digs and one ace, while senior Arianna Vargas registered five kills and one ace. Junior Breanna Cuellar tallied eight blocks and two kills, while junior Mika Valiente contributed seven blocks and four kills.
Glendale previously swept visiting Burroughs High of Burbank in a league contest, 25-23, 25-20, 25-18.
Whiting racked up 19 assists, five kills and one ace, while Valiente collected 10 blocks and five kills. Manaois produced nine kills and four aces, while Vargas recorded seven digs, five kills and one ace.
The Nitros (7-4 overall, 2-1 in league) will host Muir High of Pasadena for a league matchup on Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Westridge School of Pasadena on Sept. 13.


HOOVER

The Tornados recently won a pair of Pacific League matches in straight sets against Muir High of Pasadena and Arcadia. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press by the Hoover coaching staff.
Hoover (1-7 overall, 0-3 in league) will host Crescenta Valley High in a league match on Sept. 12 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Burbank on Sept. 14.
