Los Angeles Federal Credit Union Honors Scholarship Winners

The Los Angeles Federal Credit Union’s 2023 Jack C. Mathews College Scholarship competition winners were recently honored at a special presentation on June 7 in the credit union’s boardroom.
LAFCU President/CEO Richard Lie awarded $2,000 to each of the six high school or college students pursuing higher education in the fall of 2023.
Applicants were evaluated on their academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, community service and essay, which explored the topic: “What is your college major and why did you choose it? How would you apply what you will learn from your field of study to improving society and your community?”
Selected from 67 qualified entries, the six winners will be attending Stanford, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UCLA, USC and Utah Tech University.
The scholarship is named after the late Jack C. Mathews, who worked for the city of Los Angeles for 40 years and served as a volunteer on the LAFCU credit union board for 34 years.
Anyone who lives in the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area can join LAFCU and take advantage of its financial services. For more information, visit LAFCU.org, call (877) MY LAFCU (695-2328), or visit a branch.
