Nitros Beat Tornados; Falcons Advance to CIF

The Glendale High School varsity baseball team beat host Hoover High, 8-1, in its season finale last Friday as senior captain Frankie Malagon went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Senior Josh Hopkins went 2-for-4 with a run while senior Aaron Ruiz went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Senior Erik Chavez registered a hit and two runs while seniors Javier Solis and Neil Dewan each recorded a hit and an RBI. Senior Sean Forero was credited with a pair of RBIs while junior Alex Idolor had an RBI. Sophomore Joe Tapia walked once and scored a run while junior Brandon Guzman walked once.
Hoover freshman Isaiah Magaña recorded a double and an RBI, senior teammate Fernando Gallegos tallied a double and freshman Jordan Mahler had four strikeouts over six innings on the mound. Freshman Daniel Cano scored once while sophomore Jude Maldanado stole a base.
The Nitros finished the campaign sixth in the Pacific League with a 6-8 record (12-15 overall).
Hoover concluded the season eighth in the Pacific League with a 1-14 record (4-21 overall).

CRESCENTA VALLEY

Crescenta Valley High School’s Brandon Kwon produced a base hit during a Pacific League game against Arcadia last week.

The Falcons lost to visiting Arcadia, 11-2, in their regular-season finale last Friday.
Jimmy Spears went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Jake Deno had three strikeouts over 1.2 scoreless innings with no hits and no walks.
Chris Torres tallied a double and an RBI, Dashiell Schultz recorded a hit, a run and a walk, and Brandon Kwon produced a base hit. Tyler Garland walked twice and scored a run while Ryan Ivanyi walked once.
Pacific League runner-up CVHS (12-2 in league, 20-6 overall) visited Ocean View High in
Huntington Beach for its CIF-Southern Section Division II first-round opener yesterday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Falcons would advance to the second round on Tuesday, May 9.
