Falcons Blank Burbank in 13-Inning Marathon

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity softball team blanked visiting Burbank, 1-0, in a 13-inning Pacific League marathon last Saturday.
Junior Perri Derian started in the circle and allowed three hits, three walks and three strikeouts over six scoreless innings while sophomore Carley Mulcahey tossed seven scoreless innings in relief with five strikeouts, three hits and no walks. Junior Jaiden Sabelis went 2-for-6, sophomore Alexa Johnson went 2-for-5 with a double and a run, and sophomore Jasmine Hernandez recorded a hit, an RBI and a walk. Sophomore Megumi Ono tallied a hit, sophomore Mila Reddy registered four walks, and junior Haley Krohn walked once.
CVHS (11-7 overall, 3-1 in league) will host Muir High of Pasadena for a league game on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on April 13.

Glendale High School Maria Guerra recorded a hit and scored a run to help the Nitros beat La Salle College Preparatory in a nonleague game on Monday.

The Nitros lost to visiting Westridge School of Pasadena, 17-10, in a nonleague game on Tuesday as freshman Sky Smoot slugged a home run with two RBIs, scored two runs and had a stolen base.
Junior Maria Guerra recorded a hit, two stolen bases, an RBI and a walk, sophomore Natalie Minkler tallied a hit and a walk, and junior Phoebe Antonio had a base hit. Junior Chloe Dobie walked twice, scored once and added an RBI, senior Sammy Maylad scored twice and walked once, and seniors Desiree Guzman and Maily Navarrete each walked and scored once. Junior Jazmin Combs and sophomore Jade Marquez each scored once while junior Faith Alvarez walked once.
Glendale defeated visiting La Salle College Preparatory of Pasadena, 8-3, in a nonleague game on Monday as Minkler pitched a complete game with six strikeouts, eight hits, two walks and three runs (two earned) to post a win. Guzman went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, two runs, a walk and a stolen base, Maylad went 2-for-3, and Combs registered a triple, two RBIs and two walks. Alvarez tallied a hit, an RBI, a run and a walk, Guerra recorded a hit, two stolen bases, a run and a walk, and Antonio had a base hit. Marquez walked twice, scored a pair of runs and added an RBI, senior Carla Luna and freshman Carla Bedolla each scored once, and Navarrete walked once.
The Nitros recently competed in the second weekend of the Village Christian Spring Fling Tournament, finishing with a 23-4 loss against Cleveland High of Reseda. Minkler and Guzman each collected a double while Guerra tallied a hit, a run and a stolen base. Freshman Eliana Bautista, Antonio and Marquez each had a base hit while freshman Rachel Francis and Maylad each scored once.
Glendale previously lost to Northridge Academy in a tournament game, 8-3. Marquez went 2-for-2 with a run and a walk while Guzman recorded a double, an RBI, a run and a walk. Guerra had a base hit while Bedolla walked and scored once.
The Nitros (4-13 overall, 1-3 in league) will host Pasadena for a Pacific League game on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Hoover High in Glendale on April 13.

Hoover High School freshman Koi Abrego Castro and the Tornados will host Burbank for a Pacific League game on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m.

HOOVER

The Tornados were scheduled to visit Pasadena for a Pacific League game last Thursday but it was postponed due to inclement weather. A makeup date was unconfirmed by the Glendale News-Press’ deadline.
Hoover (1-5 overall, 0-3 in league) will host Burbank for a league game on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Glendale on April 13.
