Kubela’s Defense Helps Falcons Beat Viewpoint

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ lacrosse team edged visiting Viewpoint High of Calabasas, 5-4, to remain undefeated in Gold Coast League action on Tuesday as junior Matthew Kubela racked up a season-high 23 saves on 27 attempts.
Junior Quincy Lunt registered two goals, three assists and three ground balls while senior Jake Mounougian scored two goals. Senior Damien Valdez finished with one goal and three ground balls while senior Ethan Sheklow was credited with an assist. Junior Alex Lineses had four shots on goal, senior Parker Trillo recorded six ground balls, senior captain Anthony Gharapetian and junior Nelson Lunt each tallied three ground balls, and sophomore Ephram Wright had one ground ball.
The Falcons recently lost an overtime nonleague game at Hart High in Newhall, 12-11. Valdez registered four goals and one ground ball while sophomore Tegan Clark finished with three goals and two ground balls. Quincy Lunt tallied two goals, two assists and six ground balls while Lineses recorded two goals, one assist and one ground ball. Sheklow posted one assist and five ground balls, Nelson Lunt collected one assist and four ground balls, and Wright produced one assist and two ground balls. Trillo finished with one shot-on-goal and three ground balls, Gharapetian had two shots-on-target and sophomore Samuel Gore had one shot on goal. Kubela made 15 saves, junior Elias Shammaa collected two ground balls, and junior Daniel Briones and sophomore Josiah Noh each had one ground ball.
CVHS previously picked up a 12-3 league victory at Heritage Christian High in Northridge. Sheklow registered four goals, two assists and four ground balls, Quincy Lunt tallied three goals, three assists and one ground ball, and Lineses scored three goals with two ground balls. Valdez recorded one goal and one assist while junior Xander Trinh scored once. Gharapetian finished with one assist and three ground balls while Nelson Lunt produced one assist and two ground balls. Clark and Mounougian each had one shot on goal, Noh had two ground balls, and sophomore Rory Campbell and Trillo each had one ground ball. Sophomore Andrew Peterson won 4-of-6 face-offs while Kubela made six saves.
Crescenta Valley (5-2 overall, 3-0 in league) will host Brentwood in a league game on Tuesday, March 21, at 3:30 p.m. before visiting La Cañada on March 23.

GLENDALE

The Nitros lost a Gold Coast League game at Village Christian High in Sun Valley, 12-4, on Tuesday after previously defeating visiting La Cañada, 7-3, in a league matchup. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press by the Glendale coaching staff.
Glendale (2-4 overall, 1-1 in league) will host Heritage Christian High of Northridge for a league game on Tuesday, March 21, at 4 p.m. before visiting powerhouse Crescenta Valley High on March 28.
