Local Basketball Squads Take to the Courts

The Glendale High School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated visiting Hoover High, 53-23, in a league game.
Nitros’ senior captain Jane Bassil racked up 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Junior Sella Koshkerian poured in nine points with 10 rebounds and one assist, sophomore Christina Koshkerian registered nine points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist, and junior Michelle Mirzakhanian scored eight points with three rebounds.
Sophomore Natalia Andriassian tallied four points, five rebounds and one assist while junior Kalin Zadoori finished with three points, six rebounds, one steal and one assist. Sophomore Pateel Krikorian produced two points, four rebounds and one steal, sophomore Aleek Khanamerian recorded two points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal, and junior captain Carmen Avedian had two points, two assists, one steal and one rebound. Meanwhile, junior Pateel Koshkerian collected four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Glendale hosted Pasadena High School Friday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The fourth-place Nitros (15-6 overall, 5-4 in league) will visit sixth-place Muir High in Pasadena on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m. Glendale won 39-32 in its previous matchup with Muir on Jan. 3.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

Crescenta Valley High School senior Kristen Olavi tallied four points to help the Falcons beat Arcadia in a Pacific League game last week.

The Falcons were scheduled to host Pasadena in a Pacific League matchup on Tuesday but it was canceled by the visiting team for a lack of players, according to CVHS head coach Michael Flot. CVHS officially won by forfeit.
Crescenta Valley previously defeated host Arcadia in a league game, 70-55, as junior Lulu Arzoumanian amassed 28 points. Senior Victoria Prochazka and junior Kylie Ray each registered eight points while senior Taleen Krikorian and junior Tara Arouchian each scored six points. Senior Melissa Dayag, senior Kristen Olavi and sophomore Darby Stayton each tallied four points while junior Natalie Shabazian had two points.
The Falcons (18-4 overall, 8-1 in league) hosted Hoover High for a league rematch Friday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. CVHS will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a crucial game between the league’s top two teams on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m.

HOOVER

Hoover High School sophomore Grace Mardiossian (white jersey) and the Tornados will visit Arcadia for a rematch on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m.

The Tornados lost at Burroughs High in Burbank, 70-15, in a league game on Tuesday as sophomore Iren Musayelyan scored a team-high 10 points.
Sophomore Emily Aghazarian sank a 3-pointer while junior Jayda Russ-Wheeler had two points.
Hoover previously dropped a league game at rival Glendale, 53-23, as Musayelyan registered eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Aghazarian drained a pair of threes, Russ-Wheeler tallied five points, and junior Natalie Velasquez and freshman Marjorie McClain each finished with two points.
The Tornados visited Crescenta Valley High Friday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Eighth-place Hoover (0-15 overall, 0-9 in league) will visit Arcadia on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m.
