Falcons, Nitros Post League Victories

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team extended its winning streak to nine games after beating visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 61-37, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Senior Mikail Grigoryan collected 21 points and four rebounds and sophomore Julius Washington poured in 11 points with six boards to lead the Falcons. Senior Armen Yetenekian tallied nine points and five rebounds, and senior Sebastian Tahmasian produced seven points and four assists. Sophomore Vaughn Zargarian scored five points while junior Vatche Hairapetian recorded four points and four boards. Senior Alex Altounian finished with two points and six rebounds while junior Logan Freemon collected seven boards.
The Falcons previously won a league game at Burbank, 66-49. Grigoryan racked up a team-high 18 points with two steals, two rebounds and two assists while Altounian poured in 10 points with eight boards, three blocks and one assist. Washington registered nine points, four rebounds and one assist, Yetenekian tallied seven points, six boards, three assists and one steal, and Zargarian scored six points with two rebounds and one steal. Junior Derek Najarian produced four points, two boards, two assists and one steal, Tahmasian recorded four points, four rebounds and one assist, Freemon finished with three points and three boards, and sophomore Michael Sahagian scored three points. Hairapetian posted one point, two assists and one rebound, senior Vahan Kordian had one point and two rebounds, and junior Lachlan Blunt collected one rebound.
CVHS visited Arcadia for a league contest last night; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.
The Falcons (17-3 overall, 6-1 in league) will visit Pasadena for a league matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Tino Zadorian helped the Nitros defeat Burroughs High in a Pacific League game last week.

The Nitros lost a Pacific League game at Burbank, 55-52, on Tuesday as junior Haig Jivalagian poured in 11 points. Senior Tino Zadorian and junior Christian Pierre each registered eight points, Dior Pierre scored seven points and junior Mika Petrosian finished with six points. Meanwhile, senior Nico Zadorian, senior Denzell Lora and sophomore Josh Ballard each added four points.
Glendale previously edged visiting Burroughs High of Burbank, 63-62, in a league game as Dior Pierre scored 24 points. Christian Pierre poured in 13 points while Jivalagian registered 10 points. Lora and Ballard each scored four points, Tino and Nico Zadorian each finished with three points, and senior Riley Lacson had two points.
The Nitros hosted intracity rival Hoover High in a league contest last night; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.
Glendale (10-12 overall, 2-5 in league) will visit Arcadia for a league matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m.

HOOVER

Hoover High School’s Jenghiz Van Patten tallied six points, 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals in a Pacific League game against Muir High last week.

The Tornados lost at Pasadena, 76-55, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday as Zack Van Patten racked up 25 points, including four 3-pointers, with five rebounds and three assists.
Justin Herrera drained four 3-pointers with two steals, two rebounds and two assists, Mo Shareef poured in 11 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal, and James Akerman scored seven points with six rebounds. Meanwhile, Jenghiz Van Patten collected four rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal.
The Tornados previously dropped a league game at Muir High in Pasadena, 68-63. Akerman racked up 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal, Shareef registered 16 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal, and Herrera poured in 13 points and one steal. Zack Van Patten finished with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals while Jenghiz Van Patten tallied six points, 13 rebounds, six assists, five steals and two blocks. Meanwhile, Aramais Melkonyan had one rebound.
