Falcons Beat Tornados; Nitros Lose League Opener

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ water polo team opened Pacific League play on Tuesday by defeating visiting Hoover, 17-7, as Jacob Choe scored a game-high five goals.
Aaron Choi tallied three goals, while Alex Movsesyan collected 11 saves. Sebastian Rivera and Levon Babayan each registered two goals, while Andre Akopian, Eugene Lee, Andrew Sarkissian, Devin Janparian and Daron Alexanians each scored once.
The Falcons competed in the three-day Villa Park Classic last weekend, finishing 14th overall with a 2-3 record in Orange County.
CV ended the tournament on Saturday by falling to Troy High of Fullerton, 15-4. Lee produced a pair of goals, while Babayan and Michael Petersen each had one goal.
The Falcons opened Saturday’s tournament action by edging St. Mary’s High of Stockton, 8-7. Rivera and Petersen each finished with a pair of goals, while Choe, Babayan, Choi and Alexanians each scored once.
CVHS narrowly lost last Friday to El Dorado High of Placentia, 10-9. Rivera and Petersen each collected three goals, while Choi, Lee and Choe each tallied one goal. Meanwhile, Logan Freemon posted nine saves in the cage.
The Falcons ended the first day of tournament play last Thursday by losing to San Juan Hills High of San Juan Capistrano, 12-5. Babayan recorded two goals, while Movsesyan, Alexanians and Akopian finished with one goal.
CV opened the tournament on Thursday by defeating Woodbridge High of Irvine, 14-7, as Choe amassed a game-high six goals. Choi tallied three goals, Petersen scored a pair of goals, and Rivera, Babayan and Sarkissian each had one goal.
Crescenta Valley (7-7 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Pasadena in a league matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 3:30 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale’s August Kalaba collected three goals as the Nitros lost their Pacific League opener against powerhouse Burbank.

The Nitros lost their Pacific League opener on Tuesday against visiting Burbank, 17-9.
Gregory Carrillo and August Kalaba each collected three goals, while Arno Ghazaryan, Arthur Ter-Matevosyan and Robert Lazaryan each recorded one goal.
The Nitros picked up a 9-6 nonleague victory over visiting La Cañada last Thursday, as Carrillo and Lazaryan each scored three goals. Andrew Klujian tallied two goals, while Edgar Abnussi had one goal.
Glendale (7-12 overall, 0-1 in league) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league game on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 3:30 p.m.

HOOVER

Hoover’s Grickore Danelyan registered 11 saves as the Tornados lost their league opener against Crescenta Valley.

The Tornados lost their Pacific League opener on Tuesday against host Crescenta Valley, 17-7. Haik Aghadjanian led with three goals, while Grickore Danelyan registered 11 saves in the cage. Rocco Boyadjian, Raffi Davtyan, Davo Harutnunyan and Alex Orujian each scored once.
Hoover (4-9 overall, 0-1 in league) will continue league action at Muir High in Pasadena on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 3:30 p.m.
