Falcons, Nitros are Victorious; Tornados Fall at Muir

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ volleyball team improved to 5-0 in league (19-5 overall) and notched its eighth consecutive victory by sweeping host Burbank, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18, in a Pacific League match on Wednesday.
Nine CV players recorded at least one kill, while senior Hyacinth Ang collected a team-high seven aces.
The Falcons swept visiting Burroughs High School of Burbank for the first time in 14 years, 25-16, 25-21, 25-16, to remain undefeated in league on Tuesday. Crescenta Valley snapped a 25-match losing streak against the Bears dating back to 2008. Senior Nyra Tatoulian led with 17 kills while senior Jana Coffeen tallied 11 kills. Sophomore Isabel Haytayan collected nine kills and three blocks, and sophomore Sofia Shin produced 24 digs and three aces.
CVHS swept host Sylmar, 25-13, 25-8, 25-23, in a nonleague matchup the day before, as Tatoulian led with 17 kills. Senior Rory Solano recorded five kills, senior Catalina Clark-Reed tallied four kills and senior Natalie Andrias finished with three aces.
Crescenta Valley picked up a nonleague sweep over visiting Cleveland High of Reseda, 25-16, 25-14, 25-18, last Friday. Solano led with nine kills, while Ang registered 15 assists and four aces.
The Falcons posted a league sweep at Pasadena last Thursday, 25-14, 25-19, 25-13.
Tatoulian amassed 18 kills, Shin recorded 32 digs, and Ang and senior Aleen Derbarsegian combined for 34 assists.
CVHS will host Hoover in a league match on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale junior Arianna Vargas tallied nine aces to help the Nitros sweep Burbank in a Pacific League match.

The Nitros swept visiting Burbank, 25-16, 25-16, 25-9, in a Pacific League match on Tuesday, as sophomore Aleina Manaois led with 14 kills and three aces.
Junior Arianna Vargas collected eight kills, nine aces and four digs, and sophomore Emmi Whiting posted 21 assists and a pair of aces. Junior Mariam Brito-Salazar tallied four kills, three blocks and one ace, while senior Sofia Safarian had six digs.
Glendale lost a league matchup at Burroughs High in Burbank, 25-13, 25-16, 25-17, last Thursday. Manaois led with 11 kills, five aces and seven digs, Vargas produced five kills, nine digs and one ace, and Whiting finished with 17 assists.
The Nitros (7-7 overall, 1-2 in league) will continue league action by hosting Pasadena on Monday, Sept. 26, at 3:30 p.m.

HOOVER

The Tornados remained winless after being swept at Muir High in Pasadena in a Pacific League match on Tuesday. Hoover also lost a league matchup at Arcadia last Thursday, 25-5, 25-8, 25-8. No individual statistics were reported to the Glendale News-Press.
The Tornados (0-5 overall, 0-4 in league) will visit unbeaten Crescenta Valley for a league matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m.
