The Glendale High School varsity girls’ volleyball team collected its second victory in the past three matches by sweeping host Hawthorne, 25-18, 25-14, 25-3, in a nonleague matchup on Tuesday as sophomore Aleina Manaois led with 17 kills, five digs and two aces.
Junior Arianna Vargas produced a team-high eight aces and five kills, sophomore Emmi Whiting posted 23 assists and a pair of kills, and sophomore Breanna Cuellar tallied six aces and four blocks.
The Nitros (6-5 overall) will open Pacific League play at Crescenta Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 3:30 p.m.
CRESCENTA VALLEY
CVHS picked up a thrilling five-set nonleague victory at El Camino Real High in Woodland Hills, 18-25, 25-23, 25-13, 20-25, 15-13, on Wednesday, snapping a four-match losing streak. Senior Nyra Tatoulian collected 23 kills, senior Hyacinth Ang amassed 43 assists, sophomore Sofia Shin produced 33 digs and three aces, and sophomore Caden Pinto tallied 20 digs.
The Falcons previously dropped a nonleague match to visiting Chaminade High of West Hills, 25-18, 25-12, 25-15, last Wednesday. Tatoulian and senior Rory Solano recorded seven and five kills, respectively, while senior Aleen Derbarsegian and Ang had nine and six assists, respectively. Senior Jana Coffeen notched three aces, while Shin and Pinto logged 18 and 10 digs, respectively.
Crescenta Valley (12-5 overall) will host Glendale in a Pacific League matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 3:30 p.m.
HOOVER
The Tornados (0-1 overall) will host Burroughs High of Burbank in a league match on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 3:30 p.m.
