Nitros Fall at Alhambra, 35-8

The Glendale High School varsity football recently lost a nonleague matchup at Alhambra, 35-8, last Thursday.
Senior Isaac Quiroz produced three completions for 56 yards with a touchdown while rushing for three yards on three carries. He also had two tackles on defense. Senior Justin Melville made four catches for 35 yards with a touchdown while adding a pair of tackles on defense. Junior quarterback Jonathan Wells tallied nine completions for 57 yards, while sophomore Joseph Caballero collected 12 carries for 34 yards and a pair of tackles on defense.
Senior Jayden Wilia recorded five receptions for 38 yards with seven tackles on defense, and senior Ethan Faria had six tackles. The pair combined for a sack for a loss of two yards.
Sophomore Alex Shirvanian led the defense with a team-high 12 tackles, while junior Alfred Intriago registered seven tackles. Juniors Jonathan Anaya and Freddie Rios each posted six tackles, senior Chima Cosmas produced five tackles, and senior Mateo Gutierrez and sophomore Mark Dacles each had four tackles. Senior Daniel Autrey, senior Alexis Bonilla and junior Greg Terzian each finished with three tackles, senior Ryan De Luna tallied two tackles and senior Bryant Marte had one tackle.
The Nitros recently hosted Lynwood last night but ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline; the result will be included in next week’s issue. Glendale (0-2 overall) will host San Gabriel in a nonleague game on Friday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m.
