The Glendale High School boys’ volleyball team defeated Maranatha High of Pasadena, 25-12, 25-23, 25-19, in a nonleague game last Thursday.
Senior Asa Yoshioka led with 13 kills, 18 assists and three aces, while Ergueen Herrera recorded 11 kills for the Minutemen.
Maranatha was later swept by talented Burroughs High in Burbank, 21-25, 10-25, 20-25, in a Pacific League matchup on Tuesday. Yoshioka posted eight kills and 13 assists, Herrera collected six kills, and freshman Jimmy Osorio had four kills and one ace.
The fourth-place Nitros (9-11 overall, 2-5 in league) own a half-game advantage over fifth-place Burbank (2-6 league record) and are scheduled to visit the Bulldogs on Wednesday, April 20, at 3:30 p.m. Glendale previously swept Burbank, 25-14, 25-22, 25-12, on April 6.
The Falcons picked up a sweep over visiting Pasadena, 25-22, 25-12, 25-17, in a Pacific League match on Tuesday.
Senior Evan Boyle led CV with 11 kills and one ace while senior teammate Noah Kim added six kills.
Senior Hyun Yang collected five kills and once ace, sophomore Logan Freemon tallied four kills and three aces, and senior John Risso registered three kills and two aces. Sophomore Matthew Hong produced four aces, one kill and 16 assists, while junior Drew Puttler recorded one kill, one ace and 13 assists. Juniors William Chin and Jason Nelson each finished with two kills, senior Mason Ouye, junior William Allen and junior Dylan Hsu each had one kill, and senior Ethan Paransky posted four aces.
The second-place Falcons (21-5 overall record, 7-1 in league) are scheduled to visit Burroughs High in Burbank on Wednesday, April 20, at 6 p.m. CVHS was previously swept by Burroughs, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21, on April 6.
