Falcons, Nitros Compete in Spring Fling Tournament

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity softball team edged visiting Glendora, 2-1, in a nonleague game on Wednesday.
Pitcher Perri Derian recorded four strikeouts and allowed five hits in a complete-game victory. Isabelle Jamgotchian finished 2-for-3 with a home run, Lily Hinkle produced a base hit and a run scored, Mila Reddy, Alexa Johnson, Lauren Curtis and Haley Krohn each registered a base hit.
The Falcons were previously edged by Fairfax High of Los Angeles, 2-1, in the Village Christian Spring Fling tournament last Saturday. Jaiden Sabelis allowed two earned runs and four hits over six innings with 10 strikeouts. Johnson went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Curtis and Hinkle each tallied a base hit.
The Falcons shut out Chavez High of San Fernando, 8-0, in the first half of a doubleheader last Saturday as Derian allowed four hits over six innings with five strikeouts. Jamgotchian went 2-for-4 with a home run. Hinkle collected three base hits, while Johnson logged a pair of base hits. Anais Ochoa, Curtis and Reddy each produced a base hit.
CVHS routed visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 20-0, in a Pacific League game last Thursday. Hinkle, who finished 4-for-4 at the plate, tossed a one-hitter with six strikeouts over four innings, while the offense produced 18 hits as a unit. Jamgotchian and Sabelis each tallied three hits, while Derian and Sophia Kupperstein finished with two and one base hits, respectively.
The second-place Falcons (14-8 overall record, 6-1 in league) will have an opportunity to cushion their lead in the standings when they visit Burbank in a league game on Tuesday, April 12, at 3:15 p.m. CVHS edged Burbank, 2-1, earlier in the season.

GLENDALE

Glendale senior Patty Ramos has scored four runs over her past four games to help the Nitros improve to 4-13-1 overall.

The visiting Nitros tied a nonleague game at Gabrielino High of San Gabriel, 7-7, in a nonleague game on Monday. Sophomore Jazmin Combs collected a pair of base hits and a run scored. Seniors Kacey Martinez and Lesly Escobar each tallied a base hit and a pair of runs scored. Junior Bella Romero produced a base hit and an RBI, and freshman Natalie Minkler had a base hit. Senior Christine Raj notched one RBI, while seniors Patty Ramos and Angie Leos scored once.
The Nitros previously won the back end of a doubleheader against Castaic, 12-6, in the Village Christian Spring Fling tournament last Saturday as Martinez led with a pair of base hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Combs doubled with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
Escobar tallied a base hit, an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. Minkler and Raj finished with two and one base hits, respectively. Senior Yara Shoora stole a base and scored three times, while senior Janelle Marquez, junior Desiree Guzman, sophomore Jocelyn Castaneda and freshman Jade Marquez each scored once.
Glendale was no-hit by Whittier in a 9-0 loss in the Spring Fling tournament on Saturday, April 2. The visiting Nitros previously collected a Pacific League victory by defeating Pasadena, 11-7, last Thursday. Guzman paced the offense with a pair of base hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Martinez doubled with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Escobar registered a pair of base hits and a run scored, Minkler tallied a base hit and two RBIs, and Janelle Marquez had a base hit and an RBI. Ramos scored three runs, while Leos and Romero each scored once.
The Nitros (4-13-1 overall, 3-4 in league) will visit La Cañada for a nonleague game on Saturday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m.

HOOVER

Hoover High School’s Janet Jong and the Tornados continue to seek their first win of the season.

The Tornados remained winless in Pacific League action after falling to visiting Burbank High, 13-1, last Thursday. No individual statistics were reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Hoover (0-7 overall and 0-7 in league) is scheduled to host Glendale in a league rematch on Tuesday, April 12, at 3:30 p.m. The last meeting between the two schools resulted in an 11-5 Glendale victory.
