Falcons Win; Tornados, Nitros Fall in League Games

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team remained undefeated in Pacific League play by defeating host Muir High of Pasadena, 10-1, on Tuesday. Senior pitcher Jameson Ferraro picked up the win; he tossed six innings with eight strikeouts, three hits and one unearned run while finishing with a pair of base hits and an RBI at the plate.
Senior infielder Noah Shorkey went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored, and Kris McCollum had a 2-for-4 performance with a double and a run scored. Junior infielder Nico Terenzi collected a pair of hits, three RBIs and a run scored, junior utility player Tyler Garland tallied a base hit, two runs and an RBI, and freshman infielder Chris Torres recorded a double, an RBI and a run. Senior utility player Christopher Barrena reached on a pair of walks and scored once, while senior outfielder Zack Petersen and utility player Everett Pamm each scored once.
The visiting Falcons collected their third and fourth consecutive nonleague victories by defeating Chula Vista Mater Dei Catholic in both ends of a doubleheader last Saturday.
Crescenta Valley finished Saturday’s matinee with a 13-1 rout. Ten Falcons picked up a hit while CV’s pitching staff worked out of trouble by stranding 11 of Mater Dei Catholic’s baserunners. Terenzi tripled with a pair of RBIs and runs scored, Garland collected a double and three RBIs, and Ferraro tallied a double and two runs scored. Petersen recorded two hits, three runs scored and an RBI, sophomore infielder Jake Rendo produced a base hit and an RBI, and Torres notched a base hit and two runs scored. Junior utility player Nick Borsh and Shorkey each had a base hit and a run scored, junior catcher Tyler Oliver and Pamm each registered a base hit, and McCollum and sophomore catcher Brandon Kwon each scored once.
The Falcons won the opener of the doubleheader over Mater Dei Catholic, 8-5. Senior pitcher Zachary Roh recorded five strikeouts in three hitless innings to pick up the win, while junior pitcher Connor Campbell logged a clean inning with two strikeouts to earn the save.
Barrena collected a base hit, three RBIs and a run scored, McCollum finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and senior outfielder Luke Steele produced a. base hit and an RBI. Junior infielder Ryan Ivanyi, Shorkey and Torres each recorded a base hit and a run scored, Garland and sophomore infielder Jacob Deno each scored once, and Ferraro worked two walks with an RBI and a run scored.

Hoover junior Jose Mendez collected a base hit as the Tornados lost a Pacific League game to visiting Burbank.

The Falcons (11-4 overall record, 5-0 in league) and the Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to Burbank (5-0 in league) for a crucial league game on Tuesday, March 29, as both teams are at the top of the standings.

HOOVER

The Tornados suffered their fifth straight Pacific League loss after being held to one hit in an 11-0 shutout loss to visiting Burbank on Tuesday. Junior utility player Jose Mendez collected the lone base hit, while senior infielder Natasha Cohen and senior outfielder Joaquin Rodriguez each reached on a walk.
The Tornados (1-7-1 overall, 0-5 in league) are scheduled to visit Pasadena (0-5 in league) in a league game on Tuesday, March 29, at 3:30 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale senior infielder Jesse Molina went 4-for-4 with a home run as the Nitros collected an 11-7 nonleague victory at San Pedro Mary Star of the Sea.

The Nitros lost their second game in as many days after falling to visiting Schurr High of Montebello, 8-2, in a nonleague game on Wednesday.
Visiting Glendale was previously shut out, 12-0, in a Pacific League setback at Arcadia on Tuesday. Senior infielder Danny Villela was credited with the lone base hit.
The Nitros snapped a four-game losing streak by collecting an 11-7 nonleague victory at San Pedro Mary Star of the Sea last Saturday as senior infielder Jesse Molina went 4-for-4 with a home run. Junior infielder Josh Hopkins collected a pair of singles and runs scored, junior utility player Levi Valadez tallied two base hits and two RBIs, and junior infielder Erik Chavez finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Glendale (5-6 overall, 0-5 in league) will attempt to get in the win column when they host Muir High of Pasadena in a league game on Tuesday, March 29, at 3:30 p.m.
