Paul L. Shelton, Jr.

Paul Lescher Shelton, Jr. of Glendale, California, passed away on March 7, 2024, in Glendale, California after a brief illness. He was 85 years old.

Mr. Shelton was born on May 10, 1938, in Burbank, California. He graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale in 1956. He attended Glendale College, where he received an associate degree in 1958.  After that, he served in the Navy from 1958-1960, where he was trained as a pilot. He subsequently attended San Jose State University, where he earned his bachelor’s and MBA degrees in 1965 and 1966, respectively.  Following that, Mr. Shelton became an airline pilot. He traveled the world and flew for Continental Airlines for over 30 years until his retirement.

Paul was known for his outgoing and generous nature. He was celebrated by his neighbors as the unofficial mayor of Linden Avenue, and adored by his family, to whom he was simply “Uncle Paul.”  He was kind to everyone and quick to share a story of boyhood summers at June Lake, his life as a pilot, and his travels, especially his passion for bike trips through Europe. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Shelton was predeceased by his parents, Paul Lescher Shelton and Helen May Shelton of Glendale, California, and his niece, Lindsay Marie Tall of Mission, TX.  He is survived by his sister, Ann Marie Shelton Parker, of El Paso, Texas; his nieces and nephews Lisa Whitney, Stacy Murphy (Mike), Keith Parker (Jackie), and Sherry Hollis Donovan (David). Mr. Shelton’s family also includes seven grandnieces and -nephews, and ten great grandnieces and -nephews (10).

A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19. Donations in Mr. Shelton’s memory may be sent to City of Hope, the Cancer Research Institute, or the National Military Family Association.
