Baseball: Aldrete Shuts Out Hoover in Glendale Victory

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team lost to visiting Arcadia 4-1 in a Pacific League game on April 23 as junior Dashiell Schultz went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Freshman Mike Herman recorded a hit and a run, while senior Brandon Kwon tallied a hit. Freshman Cole Richards finished with three walks, while senior Jacob Deno walked once. Junior Aiden Rose pitched three scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no hits, while junior Colin Moore pitched four innings with a strikeout.
The Falcons defeated visiting Burbank 6-0 in a league game on April 19 as junior Sam Sellars pitched a complete game shutout with five strikeouts.
Junior Jimmy Spears went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Deno went 2-for-3 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI. Richards contributed a double, an RBI, a run and a walk, while senior Jake Rendo registered a hit, two walks and a run. Kwon walked once and scored a run, junior Chris Torres walked once and stole a base, and Schultz stole a base.
Crescenta Valley (19-6 overall, 11-2 in league) visited Arcadia for its regular-season finale on April 26; the league game ended after the News-Press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 10 a.m.

GLENDALE
The Nitros secured a 3-0 victory over visiting Hoover High in a Pacific League game on April 23. Senior Austin Aldrete, who had a base hit and an RBI at the plate, pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts, three hits and one walk.
Senior Alex Idolor recorded a hit and two runs, while senior Jason Martinez finished with a hit and a walk. Juniors Joseph Tapia and Dante Vasquez each tallied a base hit, while senior Jacob Hyde scored a run.
Glendale suffered an 11-0 loss at Cathedral High in Los Angeles in a nonleague game on April 22.
Juniors Garo Manuelian and Derek Chalian each pitched two innings, while senior Sheantell Cruz recorded a hit and a stolen base. Tapia walked twice, while Martinez walked once.
The Nitros lost at Muir High in Pasadena 9-2 in a league game on April 19.
Martinez went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, while Tapia had a base hit. Vasquez walked once and scored a run, Idolor scored a run, and Hyde walked once. Aldrete pitched 4 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, junior Austin Gonzalez pitched one inning and junior Ace Baker pitched two-thirds of an inning.
Glendale (8-18, 3-10) visited Hoover High for its regular-season finale on April 26; the league game ended after the News-Press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.

HOOVER
The Tornados lost at Vasquez High in Acton 15-1 in a nonleague game on April 25.
Senior Isaiah Alvarado went 2-for-2 with a double and a run, while sophomore Owen Marks and freshman Alex Weimar each had a base hit. Freshman Jesse Carbonneau was credited with an RBI, while senior Julian Corral walked once. Senior Bryan Olmedo pitched two innings with one strikeout, while juniors Nathan Martinez and Jude Maldonado each pitched one inning with one strikeout.
Hoover lost at Glendale 3-0 in a Pacific League game on April 23.
Sophomore Jordan Mahler pitched three scoreless innings with a strikeout, while Carbonneau pitched three innings with three strikeouts. Olmedo and Weimar each tallied a base hit, while Alvarado walked once.
