Softball: Falcons Finish Runner-Up in League Tournament

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity softball team defeated visiting Bishop Alemany High of Mission Hills 4-2 in its regular-season finale on April 25. Senior Perri Derian, who had a hit and a walk at the plate, pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Juniors Mila Reddy and Hannah Wyroski each blasted a solo home run, while senior Anais Ochoa went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Sophomore Kate Barnes scored twice and stole a pair of bases, while senior Haley Krohn and junior Carley Mulcahey each walked once.
The Falcons lost at Arcadia 7-2 in the Pacific League Tournament championship game on April 23 as Derian pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.
Ochoa went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while junior Alexa Johnson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Junior Jasmine Hernandez recorded a double and a run, while Reddy finished with a double and a walk. Senior Jaiden Sabelis tallied a hit, junior Megumi Ono walked once and scored a run, and Mulcahey walked once.
Crescenta Valley overwhelmed visiting Burbank with a 10-0 tournament victory on April 22 as Derian pitched a five-inning complete-game shutout with four strikeouts.
Reddy finished with a three-run home run and two walks, while Sabelis went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Ono produced a hit and two runs, while sophomore Reese Fontanilla contributed a hit and an RBI. Johnson tallied three runs, two walks and an RBI, while Hernandez recorded a walk, an RBI and a run. Barnes produced an RBI and a walk, while senior Ariel Beltran and Mulcahey each scored a run.
The Falcons finished the campaign second in league with a 6-1 record (13-11 overall). The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 27 at 10 a.m.

GLENDALE
The Nitros lost at Leuzinger High in Lawndale 7-5 in their regular-season finale on April 25. Individual statistics were not available by the News-Press deadline.
Glendale lost at Muir High in Pasadena 12-2 in its Pacific League Tournament finale on April 23.
Senior Jazmin Combs went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run, while junior Jade Marquez and sophomore Carla Bedolla each pitched two innings. Freshman Brooke Aldrete recorded a hit and a run, while junior Natalie Minkler tallied a base hit. Sophomore Fritzy Martinez was credited with an RBI, while senior Natalia Rubalcava walked once.
The Nitros overwhelmed visiting Hoover High with a 10-0 tournament victory on April 22. Minkler, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs at the plate, pitched a five-inning complete game shutout with seven strikeouts.
Aldrete went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base, while Combs went 2-for-3 with three runs and a walk. Sophomore Rachel Francis finished with a double, an RBI, a run and a walk, while sophomore Paola Marquez recorded a double and a run. Jade Marquez produced a hit, two RBIs, a run and a walk, while senior Faith Alvarez tallied a base hit. Sophomore Jaedyn Williams scored a run, while Martinez was credited with an RBI.
Glendale lost to visiting Muir High of Pasadena 20-1 in its tournament opener on April 20.
Minkler pitched four innings with one strikeout, sophomore Sky Smoot recorded a hit and a run, and freshman Jordan Alvarez, Rubalcava, Francis and Combs each had a base hit.
The Nitros finished the campaign sixth in league with a 2-5 record (8-18 overall).

HOOVER
The Tornados defeated visiting Pasadena 21-10 in their Pacific League Tournament finale on April 23.
Junior Evelyn Ortiz, who had a double, two runs, two stolen bases and a walk at the plate, pitched a five-inning complete game with two strikeouts, while sophomore Sophia Hernandez went 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and two walks. Freshman Giselle Ascencio recorded three walks, three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base, while freshman Hannah Parker finished with three walks, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Senior Paola Cano tallied two walks, two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base, while junior Natalie Menasaka registered three walks and three runs. Junior Kim De Leon contributed two walks and two runs, while sophomore Samantha Marquez had three runs and a walk. Freshman Anahit Kazaryan walked once, while freshman Arijana Matijasevic scored a run.
Hoover lost to visiting Glendale 10-0 in a tournament game on April 22. Ortiz, who went 2-for-2 at the plate, pitched five innings with two strikeouts, while Hernandez and Matijasevic each walked once.
The Tornados finished the campaign seventh in league with a 1-6 record (8-10 overall).
