Ascencia Gala Surpasses $400K Raised for Homeless Services

Ascencia’s 16th annual gala was a record-setting event, drawing in more than $400,000 and welcoming 280 donors and guests on April 13 at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.
The nonprofit serves as the only comprehensive homeless services provider in the area. Ascencia provides access to a broad range of services and safe, affordable housing.
Gala attendees donned their formal best, raised their paddles high and generously donated in support of Ascencia’s mission to lift people out of homelessness.
Funds brought in this year surpassed the gala goal and exceeded last year’s totals by more than $80,000. Pacific BMW and David Ho were primary sponsors of the event.
“At a time when we are seeing an unprecedented number of individuals seeking our help, this support is crucial to meet the increased demand,” said Laura Duncan, Ascencia’s executive director. “We will continue to fight to open many more doors to change for people experiencing homelessness.”
This year’s Hope and Compassion award went to Bruce and Debbie Hinckley in recognition of their selfless community leadership and commitment to Ascencia’s mission. Las Candelas, a Glendale-based organization serving vulnerable children, received the Ambassador of Hope award.
Ascencia envisions a community where people who are in need can find a safe place, housing that is affordable, and access to resources to become self-reliant. The nonprofit’s work begins with the basic, fundamental respect for the dignity of the people that it serves and is motivated by the tenacious and certain belief that nobody should be left without a place to call home.
