Softball: Glendale Shuts Out Rival Behind Minkler No-Hitter

The Glendale High junior Natalie Minkles tossed seven no-hit innings and struck out a career-high 16 batters to help the Nitros cruise to a 5-0 victory over visiting Hoover in a Pacific League varsity softball game on April 17.
Glendale senior captain Faith Alvarez went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs. Meanwhile for Hoover, junior Evelyn Ortiz pitched six innings with three strikeouts.
The Nitros lost to visiting Arcadia 18-1 in a league game on April 11.
Senior Jazmin Combs recorded a double, a run and a stolen base, while sophomore Rachel Francis tallied a base hit. Minkler and sophomore Carla Bedolla each pitched two innings, while junior Jade Marquez pitched one inning with one strikeout.
Glendale (7-15 overall, 2-5 in league) will finish competing in the Pacific League tournament before visiting Leuzinger High in Lawndale for their regular-season finale on April 25.
The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 27 at 10 a.m.

HOOVER

Hoover High freshman Hannah Parker was credited with three walks, three stolen bases and two RBIs during a Pacific League game against Pasadena on April 11.

The Tornados posted a 12-11 extra-inning victory over visiting Pasadena in a league game on April 11. Ortiz, who had a hit, three walks, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base at the plate, pitched a nine-inning complete game with nine strikeouts.
Junior Natalie Menasaka registered a triple, a run and a walk, while senior captain Paola Cano finished with a double, three walks, three runs and an RBI. Sophomore Sophia Hernandez recorded a hit, three walks and an RBI, while sophomore Samantha Marquez produced a hit, two stolen bases, an RBI and a walk. Freshman Arijana Matijasevic contributed a hit, an RBI, a run and a walk, while junior Kim De Leon tallied a hit and two runs. Freshman Hannah Parker was credited with three walks, three stolen bases, two RBIs and a run, while freshman Anahit Kazaryan had four walks and two runs.
Hoover (7-9, 1-6) will finish competing in the Pacific League tournament to end the regular season.
The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 27 at 10 a.m.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

Crescenta Valley High junior Alexa Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI during a Pacific League game against Arcadia on April 17.

The Falcons picked up a crucial 4-2 Pacific League victory at Arcadia on April 17 to secure a bye for the first round of the upcoming Pacific League Tournament. Senior Perri Derian pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and no walks.
Junior Mila Reddy slugged a two-run home run, while junior Alexa Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run. Senior Jaiden Sabelis registered a hit and an RBI, while junior Jasmine Hernandez tallied a base hit. Junior Carley Mulcahey finished with three walks and a run, while sophomore Reese Fontanilla scored a run.
Crescenta Valley blanked host Burbank 4-0 in a league game on April 11 as senior Perri Derian pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts.
Hernandez registered a hit and two RBIs, sophomore Kate Barnes contributed a hit, an RBI and a run, and Johnson tallied a base hit. Senior Ariel Beltran scored twice, while Fontanilla scored a run. Junior Megumi Ono was credited with an RBI, while junior Hannah Wyroski walked once.
Crescenta Valley (11-10, 6-1) will finish competing in the Pacific League tournament before hosting Bishop Alemany High of Mission Hills for its regular-season finale on April 25.
The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 27 at 10 a.m.
