Boys’ Volleyball: Freemon Shatters Falcons Single-Season Record

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ volleyball team lost in four games at Arcadia, 13-25, 21-25, 30-28, 23-25, in a Pacific League match on April 16. Individual statistics were not reported to the News-Press.
The Falcons hosted their 21st annual Crescenta Valley Tournament and finished with a 4-2 record.
Logan Freemon, who broke the school’s all-time single-season kills record and was selected to the all-tournament team, finished with 83 kills, 17 digs, five aces and four blocks. Freemon has more 500 kills this season and smashed Raymond Barsemian’s previous record of 445 kills.
Crescenta Valley picked up a three-game victory over Village Christian High of Sun Valley, 25-23, 14-25, 15-13, in their tournament finale on April 13. Crescenta Valley was swept by Royal High of Simi Valley, 24-26, 23-25, but posted a three-game victory over South Pasadena, 24-26, 25-16, 15-13, earlier on April 13.
The Falcons were swept by El Camino Real High of Woodland Hills, 21-25, 23-25, to end the first day of tournament play on April 12. CVHS swept La Cañada, 25-19, 25-13, after beating Mark Keppel High of Alhambra in three games, 20-25, 25-14, 15-10, in their tournament opener.
Joshua Sohn amassed 142 assists, 10 digs, five aces, three blocks and one kill, while Sena Hunter racked up 30 kills, eight blocks, two assists and two digs. Colin Walley finished with 27 kills, seven digs and six blocks, Benjamin Hart chipped in 25 kills, 20 digs, two aces and one block, and Aubrey Peterson contributed 15 kills and nine blocks. Matt Hong recorded 36 digs, six aces and four assists, Jonah Choe was credited with 21 assists, three digs, three aces and one block, and Tyler Hong collected 22 digs, two aces and two assists. Mason Park tallied four digs, three kills and one ace, while Ryan Levering registered four digs and two kills. Jayden Pang had two digs, while Matthew Lee had one dig.
Crescenta Valley (25-10 overall, 6-3 in league) visited Burroughs High in Burbank for its regular-season finale on April 18; the league match ended after the News-Press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 20 at 11 a.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School’s Tad Whiting recorded nine blocks during a Pacific League match against Burroughs High on April 16.

The Nitros were swept at Burroughs High in Burbank, 18-25, 16-25, 14-25, in a Pacific League match on April 16.
Tad Whiting recorded nine blocks, six kills and two digs, Ibrahim Alnaqib finished with nine digs, two blocks and one kill, and Koko Haboian tallied nine assists and two digs. Benjamin Salmeron registered eight blocks and one kill, while Cory Graham finished with eight blocks. Quan Tran was credited with five digs and three kills, Nick Ramirez collected five digs, and Caleb Shimasaki had four digs and two assists.
Glendale was swept at Arcadia, 13-25, 17-25, 15-25, in a league match on April 11.
Salmeron racked up 14 blocks and two kills, while Isaiah Mascardo collected 12 digs. Whiting finished with eight blocks and five kills, Tran produced five digs, three blocks and two kills, and Shimasaki was credited with five assists and five digs. Haboian contributed seven assists and two digs, while Alnaqib recorded six digs, four kills and three blocks. Ramirez tallied three blocks and one kill, while Thomas Gonzales registered three blocks.
The Nitros (14-11, 2-7) visited Muir High in Pasadena for its regular-season finale on April 19; the nonleague match ended after the News-Press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 20 at 11 a.m.

HOOVER
The Tornados were swept by visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 24-26, 25-27, 22-25, in their season finale on April 16.
Egor Kondrashov registered 12 assists and two aces, while Ryan Cantos was credited with 10 assists and two aces. Nathan Baneham finished with six kills, while Rostyslov Dykyl recorded five kills. Dylan Serrato chipped in four kills, while Armen Tormasyan tallied four aces.
Hoover finished the campaign with an 0-6 overall record in its first season back on the court since 2020.
