Softball: Barnes Career Game Powers CV to League Win

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity softball team lost at Etiwanda 12-2 in a nonleague game on April 2.
Senior Perri Derian, who had a double at the plate, pitched three innings with one strikeout, while junior Carley Mulcahey pitched one inning with two strikeouts. Senior Haley Krohn went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while junior Mila Reddy tallied a base hit. Senior Jaiden Sabelis scored a run and stole a base, while sophomore Reese Fontanilla scored a run.
The Falcons routed host Pasadena 21-0 in a Pacific League game on March 28 as sophomore Kate Barnes went 3-for-4 with a career-high seven RBIs, two doubles, a triple and a run.
Freshman Chloe Mulcahey, who had a hit, two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base at the plate, pitched a three-inning perfect game with six strikeouts. Reddy went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base, while junior Megumi Ono finished with a triple, two runs and a walk. Junior Hannah Wyroski recorded a double, a run and a walk, while senior Ariel Beltran produced a double, three runs, two walks and an RBI. Senior Anais Ochoa contributed a hit, three runs, two RBIs, two walks and a stolen base, while Fontanilla registered a hit, two RBIs and two runs. Junior Alexa Johnson tallied two walks, an RBI and a run, Krohn walked twice, scored two runs and stole a base, and Sabelis scored a run.
Crescenta Valley (8-8 overall, 4-0 in league) will host Burroughs High of Burbank for a crucial league game on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Burbank on April 11.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School sophomore Fritzy Martinez and the Nitros will host Burbank for a Pacific League game on April 9.

The Nitros lost at Burroughs High in Burbank 14-1 in a Pacific League game on April 3.
Junior Jade Marquez pitched four innings, senior Chloe Dobie finished with a hit and an RBI, and senior Jazmin Combs and sophomore Sky Smoot each had a base hit. Sophomore Paola Marquez walked once and scored a run, while sophomore Carla Bedolla stole a base.
Glendale (6-11, 1-3) will host Burbank for a league game on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on April 11.

HOOVER

Hoover High School sophomore Sophia Hernandez registered a double and three runs to help the Tornados beat Los Angeles Leadership Academy in a nonleague game on April 2.

The Tornados overwhelmed visiting Los Angeles Leadership Academy with a 17-2 nonleague victory on April 2. Junior captain Evelyn Ortiz, who had a hit, a run and a stolen base at the plate, pitched three innings with seven strikeouts.
Sophomore Sophia Hernandez registered a double and three runs, while freshman Anahit Kazaryan finished with a hit, two RBIs and two runs. Freshman Arijana Matijasevic contributed a hit, two runs and an RBI, while freshman Hannah Parker produced a hit, an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Freshman Giselle Ascencio tallied three runs and an RBI, while senior captain Paola Cano recorded two runs and an RBI. Junior Kim De Leon scored twice, while junior Natalie Menasaka scored a run.
Hoover lost to visiting Arcadia 22-0 in a Pacific League game on March 28. Hernandez finished with a pair of base hits, while Parker had a base hit.
The Tornados (6-6, 0-4) will visit Muir High in Pasadena for a league game on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on April 11.
