Baseball: Sellars Whiffs 13 as Falcons Shut Out Tornados

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team picked up a 9-4 victory over visiting La Cañada in a nonleague game on April 2.
Junior Aiden Rose pitched four innings with five strikeouts, while junior Sam Sellars pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts. Senior Jake Rendo went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and a walk, while senior Jacob Deno registered a double, two runs and two walks. Junior Jimmy Spears contributed a hit and two stolen bases, sophomore Travis Phillips produced a hit and a stolen base, and sophomore Dante Cerecedes tallied a base hit. Junior Dashiell Schultz recorded three runs, an RBI and a walk, while freshman Cole Richards finished with three walks, a run and a stolen base. Junior Jacob Mucic stole two bases and scored a run, while senior Brandon Kwon and junior Chris Torres each scored a run.
The Falcons shut out host Hoover High 9-0 in a Pacific League game on March 29. Sellars pitched a complete game with a career-high 13 strikeouts and no walks and allowed only two hits.
Rendo went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, freshman Mike Herman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Schultz registered a double, an RBI and a run. Deno contributed a hit, two RBIs, a run, a walk and a stolen base, Spears finished with a hit, two runs and two stolen bases, and Torres was credited with a hit and two RBIs. Richards recorded three stolen bases, two runs and one walk, while senior Wyatt Lambert walked once and scored a run.
Crescenta Valley (14-5 overall, 7-1 in league) will visit Muir High in Pasadena for a league game on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting the Mustangs on April 12.

HOOVER

Hoover High School sophomore Daniel Cano finished with a hit and an RBI during a nonleague game against Oakwood High on April 3.

The Tornados lost to visiting Oakwood High of North Hollywood 13-3 in a nonleague game on April 3.
Freshman Alex Weimar went 2-for-2 with a run, senior Isaiah Alvarado finished with a hit, an RBI, a run and a walk, and sophomore Daniel Cano and freshman Kieran Sinta each recorded a hit and an RBI. Freshman Jesse Carbonneau, who had a hit and a run at the plate, pitched 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout. Sophomore Jordan Mahler pitched two innings with three strikeouts, senior captain Bryan Olmedo pitched one inning and junior Jude Maldonado pitched 1/3 inning.

Senior captain Julian Corral, who recorded a double at the plate, pitched 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, while Mahler pitched 3 1/3 innings with a strikeout. Olmedo added a base hit at the plate.
The Tornados (3-13-1, 0-8) will host Burbank for a league game on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting the Bulldogs on April 12.

GLENDALE
The Nitros lost to visiting Burroughs High of Burbank 8-0 in a Pacific League game on March 29.
Seniors Xander Knur and Sheantell Cruz each finished with a hit and a stolen base, senior Alex Idolor and junior Joseph Tapia each tallied a base hit, and junior Dante Vasquez walked once. Senior Jason Martinez, who had a base hit at the plate, pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings with a strikeout. Junior Ace Baker pitched 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, while senior Austin Aldrete pitched one inning with one strikeout.
Glendale (6-12, 2-6) will visit Arcadia for a league game on April 9 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting the Apaches on April 12.
