Baseball: Moore Fans 10 as Falcons Shut Out Tornados

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team overwhelmed visiting Hoover High with a 23-0 Pacific League victory on March 26. Colin Moore pitched a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts, one hit and no walks.
Jake Rendo went 4-for-5 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, while Dante Cerecedes went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and a run. Jimmy Spears went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and a walk, while Jacob Deno contributed a double, two RBIs and two runs. Dashiell Schultz registered a hit, two RBIs, two runs, a walk and a stolen base, Brandon Kwon tallied a hit, three runs and two walks, and Cole Richards produced a hit, two runs, a walk and a stolen base. Chris Torres recorded a hit, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, Travis Phillips and Mike Herman each finished with a hit, an RBI and a run, and Dominic Costa posted a hit and two runs. Gunner Herman collected a hit and an RBI, while Wyatt Lambert had a hit and a run. Brock Robeson walked once and scored a run, while Chris Chien was credited with an RBI.
The Falcons shut out host Mater Dei Catholic High in Chula Vista 9-0 in the matinee matchup of a nonleague doubleheader on March 23. Sam Sellars pitched a six-inning complete game shutout with six strikeouts, two hits and one walk.
Rendo went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a run and a stolen base, Schultz went 3-for-3 with three runs, two stolen bases and a walk, and Kwon went 3-for-3 with a run. Deno went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, while Torres went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Spears recorded a triple, an RBI and a run, while Richards produced a hit, a run and a stolen base. Phillips walked twice, scored a run and stole a base, while Cerecedes walked once.
CVHS defeated host Mater Dei Catholic High 6-2 in a nonleague game on March 23. Aiden Rose pitched five innings with four strikeouts, while Moore pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Schultz went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, five RBIs and a stolen base, Kwon went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Mike Herman went 2-for-4 with a run. Richards contributed a double, two runs and a walk, while Spears finished with a hit and a run. Torres tallied a base hit, while Gunner Herman and Deno each walked once.
Crescenta Valley (12-5 overall, 6-1 in league) will host La Cañada for a nonleague game on April 2 at 6:15 p.m. before hosting Arroyo Grande on April 5.

HOOVER

Hoover (3-11-1, 0-7) will host Oakwood High of North Hollywood for a nonleague game on April 3 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena Polytechnic on April 5.

GLENDALE
The Nitros lost at Burroughs High in Burbank 11-1 in a Pacific League game on March 26.
Senior captain Austin Aldrete pitched three scoreless innings with one strikeout, while senior Jason Martinez pitched two innings with one strikeout. Senior Sheantell Cruz walked once and stole a base, while senior Aaron Aguayo walked once.
Glendale (6-11, 2-5) will visit Golden Valley High in Santa Clarita for a nonleague game on April 4 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Arroyo Grande on April 6.
