Naghdalyan, Anjunyan Propel Glendale Boys’ Soccer to CIF First-Round Triumph

The Glendale High School varsity boys’ soccer team defeated visiting Golden Valley High of Santa Clarita 2-1 in its CIF Southern Section Division III opener on Feb. 7 as seniors Edgar Naghdalyan and Kevin Anjunyan each chipped in one goal.
The Nitros shut out visiting Hoover 3-0 in their regular season and Pacific League finale on Feb. 1.
Senior Artur Gevorgyan, Anjunyan and Naghdalyan each scored one goal, while senior Hani Ahmadie was credited with an assist.
Glendale (14-2-2 overall) battled Vista Murrieta (17-5-2 overall) in its second-round match on Feb. 9; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Nitros would advance to the quarterfinals and battle either Sultana High of Hesperia (14-7-5) or Bell Gardens (16-2-3) on Feb. 13.

CRESCENTA VALLEY
The Falcons suffered a 3-0 loss at Canyon High of Anaheim in their CIF Southern Section Division I opener on Feb. 7.
Crescenta Valley previously concluded the regular season and Pacific League action at Arcadia with a scoreless draw on Feb. 1, as senior goalie Arvin Navasartian earned a clean sheet.
Crescenta Valley finished the campaign third in league with a 6-6-2 record (6-10-3 overall).

HOOVER
The Tornados concluded the regular season and Prep League play with a 3-0 loss at Glendale on Feb. 1. Hoover finished the campaign seventh in league with a 3-9-2 record (6-9-2 overall).
