Crescenta Valley Girls’ Basketball Captures Third Consecutive Pacific League Title

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ basketball team topped visiting Glendale 75-26 to secure its third consecutive Pacific League title on Jan. 30.
Senior Kylie Ray led the offense with a game-high 38 points and added 10 assists, six rebounds, four steals and one block.
Junior Keira Calaguas poured in 11 points with three assists, two steals, two blocks and one rebound, freshman Anik Nortikyan registered 11 rebounds, nine points, two steals and two blocks, and freshman Yashvi Ahir tallied seven points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two assists. Junior Darby Stayton finished with four points, four rebounds, two blocks and one steal, sophomore Mila Hairapetian and freshman Kelin Shajanian each chipped in two points and two rebounds, and freshman Tsoler Nalbandian scored two points. Freshman Ava Gharib recorded two rebounds and one assist, while freshman Emma Hovsepian contributed one rebound and one assist. Freshman Lylah Dunlavey collected two rebounds, while sophomore Amelia Parmentier had one rebound.
The Falcons secured a 49-39 nonleague victory over visiting Redondo Union High of Redondo Beach on Jan. 27 as Ray racked up 21 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block.
Calaguas finished with 15 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists, Nortikyan posted a double-double with 16 rebounds, 11 points, two blocks and two steals, and Stayton recorded 10 rebounds, two points and one assist. Parmentier tallied three rebounds and one assist, Gharib collected two rebounds, and Ahir had one rebound.
Crescenta Valley posted a 71-34 league victory at Burbank on Jan. 26.
Ray poured in 15 points with five assists, four rebounds and two steals, while Calaguas tallied 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals and one block. Ahir finished with nine points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist, Shajanian registered nine points, two rebounds and one assist, and Parmentier recorded eight points, one steal and one rebound. Nortikyan produced 11 rebounds, seven points and two steals, Stayton contributed four points, three rebounds and one steal, and Dunlavey chipped in four points, one steal and one rebound. Hairapetian notched three points, one rebound and one assist, while Nalbandian was credited with four rebounds and one point. Gharib collected five rebounds, while junior Estella Aydin had two rebounds and one steal. Freshman Teny Hovsepian had two steals, while Emma Hovsepian had one steal.
Crescenta Valley (21-6 overall, 13-0 in league) visited Arcadia for its regular season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Pacific League champions will find out who their Division I opponents are when the CIF Southern Section playoff brackets are released Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Kalin Zadoori and the Nitros hosted Hoover High for their regular season finale on Feb. 1.

The Nitros lost to Crescenta Valley High 75-26 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 30 after previously suffering a 59-39 loss against visiting Pasadena on Jan. 26. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Glendale (16-9, 8-5) hosted Hoover High for its regular season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m. The Nitros are ranked No. 9 in the recent Division III-AA polls.

HOOVER
The Tornados lost to visiting Burbank 69-23 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 30 as junior Iren Musayelyan scored 10 points.
Freshman Aleena Kalanjian recorded six points, junior Grace Mardirossian finished with four points and freshman Aya Ter-Martirosyan tallied three points.
Hoover lost at Burroughs High in Burbank 64-14 in a league game on Jan. 26.
Musayelyan poured in 11 points, while freshman Evelyn Torosiyan drained a 3-pointer.
The Tornados (1-17, 0-13) visited Glendale for its regular-season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.
