Crescenta Valley Boys’ Basketball Quells Glendale in Pacific League Showdown

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated visiting Glendale 62-48 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 30.
Junior Vaughn Zargarian racked up 23 points, five rebounds and one assist, while senior Derek Najarian poured in 19 points with five rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block. Senior Logan Freemon finished with seven points, seven rebounds, four blocks and one assist, junior Michael Sahagian tallied six points, three assists, three steals, one block and one rebound, and senior Nick Altounian registered 10 rebounds, three points, three steals and two assists. Senior Grikor Moghoyan chipped in two points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist, while senior Lachlan Blunt had three rebounds and two points.
The Falcons picked up a 65-54 league victory at Burbank on Jan. 26 as Zargarian poured in 22 points with six rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
Najarian registered 17 points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds, while Freemon contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, two assists and one steal. Moghoyan tallied five points, two assists, one steal and one rebound, Sahagian chipped in four points, two steals, one assist and one rebound, and Altounian recorded five assists, three points, one steal and one rebound. Meanwhile, senior Tishan Ahir scored one point.
Crescenta Valley (21-6 overall, 11-2 in league) hosted Arcadia for its regular season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Feb. 4 at noon. The Falcons will compete in the Division II-AA bracket.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Anthony Agakhanyan scored six points during a Jan. 30 Pacific League matchup against Crescenta Valley High.

The Nitros lost at Crescenta Valley High 62-48 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 30 as senior Haig Jivalagian poured in a team-high 19 points.
Senior Anthony Agakhanyan scored six points, senior Rein Rigor, senior Christian Pierre and junior Roman Ramirez each recorded five points, and senior Mika Petrosian and junior Joshua Ballard each finished with four points.
Glendale previously lost to visiting Pasadena 79-54 in a league game. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
The Nitros (15-12, 5-8) hosted Hoover High for their regular season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Feb. 4 at noon. If qualified, the Nitros will compete in Division IV-A.

HOOVER

Hoover High School sophomore Justin Herrera tallied 18 points and three assists during a Pacific League matchup against Burbank on Tuesday.

The Tornados narrowly lost to visiting Burbank 66-64 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 30 as senior Zakhary Van Patten racked up 21 points, four assists, three steals, two blocks and one rebound.
Sophomore Justin Herrera finished with 18 points, four rebounds and three assists, while senior Michael Shamoun poured in 12 points with five rebounds and two assists. Senior Hagop Demirjian chipped in six points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist, junior Jaden Duncan scored three points, and junior Arin Tahmasian recorded two points and one block.
Hoover lost at Burroughs High in Burbank 67-63 in a league game on Jan. 26 as Van Patten posted a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal.
Herrera poured in 14 points with four rebounds, four assists and one steal, while Shamoun registered a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and one steal. Demirjian contributed 10 points, two rebounds and one assist, while Duncan tallied eight points, one block and one rebound.
The Tornados (12-12, 3-10) visited Glendale for their regular season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Hoover ranks No. 5 in the recent CIF Southern Section Division V-AA polls and will learn more about a potential playoff berth when the CIF Southern Section playoff brackets are released Feb. 4 at noon.
