Jivalagian, Ballard Pace Glendale Past Hoover

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team secured a 66-51 Pacific League victory at Muir High in Pasadena on Jan. 16 as senior Derek Najarian racked up 20 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Junior Vaughn Zargarian poured in 17 points with three steals, three rebounds and two assists, while junior Michael Sahagian tallied 13 points, five rebounds, one steal and one assist. Senior Logan Freemon finished with seven rebounds, four points, two blocks, two steals and one assist, while senior Nick Altounian recorded four points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Senior Tishan Ahir chipped in four points and four rebounds, while freshman Dylan Shaghoian registered four points and one rebound. Senior Lachlan Blunt was credited with two steals and one rebound, while senior Ben Hart had one steal.
The Falcons defeated visiting Arcadia 73-55 in a league game on Jan. 12 as Najarian poured in 28 points with three assists and two steals.
Senior Grikor Moghoyan registered 17 points and three assists, while Zargarian finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Freemon recorded eight blocks, eight points, seven rebounds and one steal, while Sahagian chipped in eight points, five assists and three rebounds. Altounian produced four rebounds, three points and two steals, while sophomore Arman Bedrossian and Blunt each had one rebound.
Crescenta Valley (17-5 overall, 7-2 in league) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league game on Jan. 23 at 5:15 p.m. before traveling to Burbank on Jan. 26.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Cayden Mailed tallied two points to help the Nitros beat Burbank in a Pacific League matchup on Jan. 16.

Junior Joshua Ballard racked up 21 points, while junior Roman Ramirez poured in 20 points. Senior Mika Petrosian scored eight points, while senior Haig Jivalagian and sophomore Mason Manalo each finished with four points. Senior Christian Pierre chipped in three points, while senior Cayden Mailed tallied two points.
Glendale defeated host Hoover High 64-50 in a league matchup on Jan. 12.
Jivalagian registered 19 points, while Ballard poured in 15 points. Manalo contributed seven points, Ramirez scored six points and senior Anthony Agakhanyan chipped in five points. Mailed recorded four points, while senior David Davtian, senior Matthew Bidrosian, junior Koko Bazrbachi and Petrosian each had two points.
The Nitros (14-8, 4-4) will visit Arcadia for a league game on Jan. 23 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on Jan. 26.


HOOVER

Hoover High School senior Zack Van Patten poured in 24 points in a 64-50 Pacific League loss to Glendale on Jan. 12.

Senior Zack Van Patten poured in 24 points, while sophomore Justin Herrera scored 16 points. Senior Michael Shamoun chipped in four points, while senior Hagop Demirjian and junior Jaden Duncan each finished with three points.
Hoover lost at Pasadena 68-38 in a league game on Jan. 16. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
The Tornados (11-9, 2-7) will visit Muir High in Pasadena for a league game on Jan. 23 at 5:15 p.m. before traveling to Burroughs High in Burbank on Jan. 26.
