Ballard Guides Glendale Past San Gabriel

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Granada Hills Charter 65-63 in its South Pasadena Tournament finale on Dec. 29.
Junior Vaughn Zargarian registered 20 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists, while senior Derek Najarian tallied 20 points, four assists, two rebounds and one steal. Senior Logan Freemon finished with 10 points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist, while senior Nick Altounian chipped in five points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist. Senior Lachlan Blunt recorded four points, two rebounds and one assist, senior Grikor Moghoyan contributed four points, one rebound and one assist, and junior Michael Sahagian produced two points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
The Falcons secured a 76-57 victory over Palmdale in a tournament game on Dec. 28 as Najarian racked up 23 points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Zargarian poured in 11 points with eight rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Altounian registered eight points, two steals and one rebound. Sahagian chipped in six points, five rebounds and one assist, Moghoyan recorded five points and five rebounds, and freshman Dylan Shaghoian finished with five points, four rebounds and one steal. Senior Tishan Ahir contributed four points, four rebounds and one assist, while Blunt produced four points and two rebounds. Senior Ben Hart notched three points and three rebounds, Freemon had seven rebounds, two points and one assist, and sophomore Arman Bedrossian had six rebounds and two points.
Crescenta Valley (14-4 overall, 4-1 in league) will host Pasadena for a Pacific League game on Jan. 9 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on Jan. 12.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School junior Daniel Soliman tallied six points to help the Nitros beat San Gabriel in their San Gabriel Tournament finale on Dec. 30.

Junior Joshua Ballard poured in 17 points, while senior Mika Petrosian registered 10 points. Junior Roman Ramirez tallied eight points, while junior Daniel Soliman scored six points. Senior Christian Pierre and junior Chris Martirosyan each chipped in four points, senior Anthony Agakhanyan finished with three points, and senior David Davtian had one point.
Glendale secured a 53-35 victory over Gabrielino in a tournament game on Dec. 29.
Ballard recorded 12 points, while sophomore Mason Manalo registered 11 points. Pierre tallied seven points, Soliman scored six points and junior Koko Bazrbachi contributed five points. Martirosyan produced four points, senior Matthew Bidrosian and Ramirez each chipped in three points, and senior Harout Karapetyan had two points.
The Nitros picked up a 66-47 victory over Alhambra in a tournament game on Dec. 28, as Ballard amassed 32 points.
Karapetyan poured in 10 points, while Ramirez, Bazrbachi and Petrosian each scored five points. Manalo and Pierre each finished with four points, while Martirosyan recorded one point.
Glendale (12-6, 2-2) will host Burroughs High of Burbank for a Pacific League game on Jan. 9 at 5:15 p.m. before visiting Hoover High on Jan. 12.


HOOVER

Hoover High School junior Jaden Duncan scored 12 points during a Duarte Tournament matchup against Antelope Valley High on Dec. 29.

Senior Zack Van Patten finished with 36 points, seven assists, three steals, two blocks and two rebounds, while sophomore Justin Herrera racked up 32 points, six steals, four assists and one rebound. Junior Jaden Duncan tallied 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, senior Michael Shamoun recorded nine rebounds, seven points, four assists, one block and one steal, and senior Hagop Demirjian contributed 12 rebounds, five points and two steals. Junior Arin Tahmasian chipped in two points, one steal and one rebound, sophomore Harout Godzhoyan registered four assists, two steals and one rebound, and senior Ethan Davis had two steals and one rebound.
The Tornados lost to Los Altos High of Hacienda Heights 85-72 in a tournament game on Dec. 28 as Van Patten amassed 34 points, six assists, two rebounds and one steal.
Herrera poured in 19 points with six rebounds, five assists and one steal, while Duncan registered 11 points, two assists, one steal and one rebound. Demirjian tallied six points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Shamoun contributed three rebounds, two points and one assist. Godzhoyan recorded one steal and one rebound, Davis produced one assist and one rebound, and Tahmasian had one rebound.
Hoover (10-6, 1-4) will host Arcadia for a Pacific League game on Jan. 9 at 5:15 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Jan. 12.
