Crescenta Valley Cruises to Pacific League Victory

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team narrowly lost to Santa Monica in double overtime 57-55 in an L.A. Court Report Stocking Stuffer Showcase game on Dec. 16 as Derek Najarian amassed 32 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Vaughn Zargarian recorded eight points, six rebounds and one steal, while Dylan Shaghoian scored eight points. Logan Freemon finished with eight rebounds, three points, one block and one steal, Michael Sahagian chipped in three points and one rebound, and Nick Altounian tallied three rebounds, one point and one assist. Grikor Moghoyan registered three rebounds, one steal and one assist, while Lachlan Blunt collected four rebounds.
The Falcons secured a convincing 74-54 Pacific League victory at Burroughs High in Burbank on Dec. 15.
Zargarian racked up 22 points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal, while Freemon posted a double-double with 15 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks and one steal. Sahagian recorded 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal, Najarian tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Altounian registered nine points, six rebounds and four assists. Moghoyan chipped in two points and two assists, Blunt finished with six rebounds and one assist, and Shaghoian had one rebound.
Crescenta Valley (9-4 overall, 3-1 in league) will visit Glendale for a league game on Jan. 4 at 6:45 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on Jan. 9.


HOOVER

Hoover High School’s Hakop Demirjian tallied seven rebounds and five points to help the Tornados beat Muir High in a Pacific League matchup last week.

The Tornados lost at Arcadia 82-64 in a Pacific League game on Dec. 19.
Zack Van Patten racked up 27 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and one block, while Justin Herrera registered 14 points, six assists, one steal and one rebound. Jaden Duncan tallied nine points and two rebounds, Michael Shamoun finished with seven points, two assists and one steal, and Hakop Demirjian contributed nine rebounds, five points, three steals, three assists and one block. Arin Tahmasian recorded three rebounds, two points and one assist, while Ethan Davis was credited with two assists and one rebound.
Hoover secured a 59-53 league victory over visiting Muir High of Pasadena on Dec. 15, as Herrera racked up 24 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Van Patten recorded 13 points, five assists, three steals and one rebound, Shamoun tallied nine points, three blocks, two assists and one steal. Demirjian finished with seven rebounds, five points, two steals, two assists and one block, while Davis contributed four rebounds, three points, one block, one steal and one assist. Duncan chipped in three points, three rebounds and two steals, while Tahmasian had two points, two rebounds and one assist.
The Tornados (7-4, 1-3) will compete in the Duarte-Temple City Tournament next week before resuming league play at Burbank on Jan. 4 at 6:45 p.m.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School junior Roman Ramirez scored four points during a Dec. 15 Pacific League matchup against Arcadia.

The Nitros lost to visiting Arcadia 73-47 in a Pacific League game on Dec. 15.
Senior Haig Jivalagian recorded 12 points, while junior Joshua Ballard finished with 10 points. Senior Christian Pierre scored eight points, while senior Mika Petrosian chipped in five points. Junior Roman Ramirez and sophomore Mason Manalo each tallied four points, while senior Rein Rigor and junior Chris Martirosyan each registered two points.
Glendale (8-6, 2-2) will host Yeshiva University of Los Angeles for a nonleague game on Dec. 27 at 4:45 p.m. before resuming league play against visiting Crescenta Valley High on Jan. 4 at 6:45 p.m.
