Falcons Outlast Tornados in League Showdown

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team posted a narrow 60-58 Pacific League victory over visiting Hoover High on Dec. 12.
Derek Najarian recorded 20 points, Vaughn Zargarian finished with 18 points and Logan Freemon scored 10 points.
The Falcons defeated visiting Muir High of Pasadena 70-54 in a league game on Dec. 8.
Zargarian racked up 27 points, five assists and two steals, while Najarian registered 17 points, four assists, three steals and one block. Vatche Hairapetian finished with nine points and one assist, Dylan Shaghoian tallied five points and one steal, and Grikor Moghoyan contributed four points, two assists and one steal. Freemon recorded three points, one block and one steal, Lachlan Blunt chipped in three points, and Nick Altounian scored two points. Michael Sahagian produced two steals, while Tishan Ahir had one steal.
Crescenta Valley (8-3 overall, 2-1 in league) will host Burbank for a league game on Dec. 21 at 6:45 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Jan. 4.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School sophomore Mason Manalo tallied nine points to help the Nitros beat Muir High of Pasadena in a Pacific League matchup earlier this week.

The Nitros defeated host Muir High in Pasadena 75-61 in a Pacific League game on Dec. 12.
Senior Haig Jivalagian racked up 23 points, while junior Joshua Ballard registered 20 points. Sophomore Mason Manalo tallied nine points, senior Mika Petrosian contributed eight points and junior Roman Ramirez scored six points. Senior Anthony Agakhanyan finished with four points, senior David Davtian had two points and senior Cayden Mailed chipped in one point.
Glendale defeated visiting Burbank 72-53 in a league game on Dec. 8.
Jivalagian registered 14 points, while Ballard tallied 13 points. Petrosian finished with 12 points, while senior Rein Rigor contributed 10 points. Ramirez recorded seven points, Manalo tallied five points and Davtian scored four points. Senior Matthew Bidrosian produced three points, while senior Christian Pierre and Mailed each chipped in two points.
The Nitros (8-5, 2-1) will resume league play against Crescenta Valley High on Jan. 4 at 6:45 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on Jan. 9.


HOOVER

Hoover High School senior Michael Shamoun had six rebounds and four points during a Pacific League matchup against Crescenta Valley High on Tuesday.

Senior Zack Van Patten racked up 25 points, six assists, four steals and three rebounds, sophomore Justin Herrera registered 19 points, four rebounds and two assists, and senior Hakop Demirjian tallied 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Senior Michael Shamoun finished with six rebounds, four points, three steals and two assists, while junior Jaden Duncan contributed one steal and one rebound.
Hoover lost to visiting Pasadena 58-45 in a league game on Dec. 8.
Van Patten tallied 20 points, four rebounds and one assist, while Herrera produced 13 points, five assists and two rebounds. Duncan tallied seven points and two rebounds, while Shamoun recorded five points, five rebounds and three steals. Demirjian registered four rebounds, while junior Arin Tahmasian had one steal and one rebound.
The Tornados (6-3, 0-2) will visit Arcadia for a league game on Dec. 19 at 4:30 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on Dec. 21.
