Crescenta Valley, Glendale Stumble in League Opener

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team narrowly lost at Pasadena 54-52 in its Pacific League opener on Dec. 5.
Vaughn Zargarian registered 19 points and four rebounds, while Derek Najarian contributed 18 points, four rebounds and one assist. Nick Altounian tallied five points, three rebounds and one assist, Logan Freemon chipped in four points and four rebounds, and Michael Sahagian finished with four points, two rebounds and two assists.
The Falcons (6-3 overall, 0-1 in league) will host Hoover High of Glendale in a league game on Dec. 12 at 5:15 p.m. before visiting Burroughs High in Burbank on Dec. 15.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Mika Petrosian tallied 18 points during a Pacific League game against Burroughs High on Tuesday.

The Nitros lost at Burroughs High in Burbank 105-92 in their Pacific League opener on Dec. 5, as senior Haig Jivalagian registered 23 points.
Junior Joshua Ballard contributed 19 points, senior Mika Petrosian tallied 18 points and junior Roman Ramirez finished with 14 points. Senior Anthony Agakhanyan scored seven points, sophomore Mason Manalo chipped in six points and senior Christian Pierre recorded five points.
Glendale defeated host St. Genevieve High in Panorama City 68-55 in a nonleague game on Dec. 4.
Manalo registered 19 points, Ballard tallied 15 points and Petrosian finished with 14 points. Pierre scored six points, senior Rein Rigor chipped in five points and Ramirez recorded four points. Agakhanyan contributed three points, while Jivalagian had two points.
The Nitros lost to Don Lugo High in Chino 64-46 in their San Dimas Tournament finale on Dec. 2.
Jivalagian scored seven points, while Ramirez and Ballard each finished with six points. Senior Harout Karapetyan tallied five points, Rigor chipped in three points, and Agakhanyan and Manalo each scored two points.
Glendale lost to San Dimas 72-60 in a tournament game on Dec. 1.
Pierre recorded 16 points, while Ramirez finished with 13 points. Petrosian tallied 12 points, while Ballard registered 10 points. Jivalagian chipped in six points, Rigor had two points and senior David Davtian scored one point.
The Nitros secured a 78-71 nonleague victory over visiting Sylmar on Nov. 30, as Ballard recorded 19 points.
Jivalagian tallied 16 points, while Petrosian finished with 10 points. Karapetyan scored seven points, Ramirez chipped in six points and Rigor recorded five points. Senior Cayden Mailed registered three points, while Davtian had two points.
Glendale (6-5, 0-1) will visit Muir High in Pasadena for a league game on Dec. 12 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on Dec. 15.

HOOVER
The Tornados have not played a game since beating San Gabriel in a tournament game on Nov. 25. Hoover carried a five-game win streak into its Pacific League opener against Pasadena on Dec. 8; the game ended after the News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.
The Tornados (6-1) will visit Crescenta Valley High for a league game on Dec. 12 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Muir High of Pasadena on Dec. 15.
