Hoover’s Winning Streak Continues

The Hoover High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated San Gabriel 56-44 in its San Gabriel Tournament finale on Nov. 25. The Tornados swept tournament play to extend their win streak to five games.
Senior Zack Van Patten racked up 26 points, eight rebounds, five steals, five assists and one block, while sophomore Justin Herrera finished with 15 points, six assists, three steals and two rebounds. Junior Arin Tahmasian contributed six points, three rebounds and one block, while senior Hakop Demirjian produced six points, three rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Harout Godzhoyan recorded two points, two rebounds and one assist, while junior Jaden Duncan tallied four rebounds and one point. Senior Michael Shamoun collected three rebounds, one steal, one block and one assist, while senior Atom Shahoian had one assist.
Hoover dominated La Puente 87-38 in a tournament game on Nov. 24. Herrera amassed 32 points, 13 assists, seven steals and three rebounds, while Van Patten racked up 28 points, eight steals, eight assists and five rebounds.
Tahmasian registered 10 points, two rebounds, two blocks and one steal, while Shamoun tallied eight points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists. Demirjian registered six steals, five rebounds, four points and one block, while Duncan contributed five points, two assists, two rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Godzhoyan finished with two steals, one rebound and one assist, while senior Aryan Sharma and sophomore Nick Katchoyan each had two rebounds.
The Tornados posted a 71-60 victory over Channel Islands High of Oxnard in a tournament game on Nov. 21, as Van Patten recorded 22 points, 12 rebounds, eight steals, six assists and one block.
Shamoun registered 11 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists, Herrera tallied 10 points, six assists, five steals and five rebounds, and Duncan chipped in 10 points and four rebounds. Demirjian finished with 18 rebounds, eight points, four steals and one assist, Godzhoyan contributed six points, two rebounds and one assist, and Tahmasian produced four points, four rebounds, one assist and one block. Meanwhile, Shahoian was credited with one assist.
Hoover routed El Monte 81-25 in its tournament opener on Nov. 20, as Van Patten amassed 33 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals.
Herrera finished with 18 points, 10 steals, nine assists and two rebounds, Shamoun registered 11 points, seven steals, six rebounds and two assists, and Duncan tallied 10 points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist. Demirjian contributed 13 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and four points, while Katchoyan chipped in five points and one steal. Tahmasian recorded five rebounds, one steal and one assist, while Shahoian produced three rebounds and one assist.
The Tornados (6-1 overall) will open Pacific League action at Arcadia on Dec. 5 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on Dec. 8.


CRESCENTA VALLEY

Crescenta Valley High School’s Vaughn Zargarian scored 26 points to help the Falcons beat SEDA College of Australia in their San Gabriel Tournament finale Nov. 25.

In their San Gabriel Tournament finale Nov. 25, the Falcons came away with a 56-51 victory over SEDA College, an independent secondary school from Australia.
Vaughn Zargarian racked up 26 points, six rebounds, five assists and one steal, while Vatche Hairapetian contributed 15 points and one steal. Grikor Moghoyan finished with eight assists, seven points, five rebounds and three steals, Michael Sahagian tallied six points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds, and Logan Freemon recorded six points, one block and one rebound. Nick Altounian produced four rebounds, two points and two steals, Arman Bedrossian registered four rebounds, one steal, one block and one point, and Lachlan Blunt collected three rebounds, one steal, one block and one point. Meanwhile, Dylan Shaghoian had one rebound.
Crescenta Valley fell to Mark Keppel High of Alhambra, 57-56, in a tournament game on Nov. 24, as Zargarian racked up 25 points, six rebounds, five steals, four assists and one block.
Hairapetian recorded 14 points, one rebound and one assist, Freemon registered nine points, seven rebounds and one steal, and Sahagian chipped in seven points, two rebounds and one assist. Blunt tallied eight rebounds, two points, one steal and one assist, while Altounian finished with four rebounds and three steals. Moghoyan contributed two assists and two steals, while Shaghoian had one rebound.
The Falcons lost to Bishop Amat High of La Puente 66-63 in a tournament game on Nov. 21, as Zargarian registered 24 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Derek Najarian tallied 13 points, four rebounds and one steal, while Moghoyan produced 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Hairapetian contributed eight points, three rebounds and one steal, while Freemon recorded seven rebounds, six points and one steal. Sahagian chipped in two points, one rebound and one assist, Altounian finished with one block and one assist, and Blunt had two rebounds.
Crescenta Valley picked up a 53-37 victory over Gardena in its tournament opener on Nov. 20.
Zargarian contributed 15 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Najarian finished with 12 points and one rebound. Freemon tallied nine points, seven rebounds, one steal and one assist, Hairapetian produced nine points, two rebounds and one steal, and Sahagian finished with six points, one rebound and one steal. Moghoyan chipped in six assists, five rebounds and two points, Altounian recorded six rebounds and one steal, and Blunt had one block and one assist.
The Falcons (6-2) will open Pacific League action at Pasadena on Dec. 5 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Muir High of Pasadena on Dec. 8.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School junior Joshua Ballard tallied 17 points to help the Nitros beat Patriot High in a San Dimas Tournament game Nov. 29.

Senior Haig Jivalagian registered 22 points, while junior Joshua Ballard tallied 17 points. Senior Mika Petrosian scored eight points, while senior Cayden Mailed and junior Junior Roman Ramirez each tallied six points. Senior Rein Rigor finished with three points, while senior Christian Pierre had two points.
Glendale secured a 63-56 victory over Whittier in a tournament game on Nov. 28, as Ballard recorded 19 points. Rigor registered 16 points, Jivalagian chipped in 12 points and Mailed contributed 10 points. Senior David Davtian and Petrosian each scored two points, while senior Anthony Agakhanyan and Ramirez each had one point.
The Nitros suffered a 75-59 tournament-opening loss against Ontario Christian on Nov. 27, as Jivalagian racked up 23 points. Ramirez produced 10 points, senior Harout Karapetyan recorded eight points, and Petrosian and Ballard each tallied six points. Rigor chipped in four points, while junior Daniel Soliman scored two points.
Glendale (4-2) will visit St. Genevieve High in Panorama City for a nonleague match on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. before opening Pacific League action at Burroughs High in Burbank on Dec. 5.
