Crescenta Valley Singles, Doubles Reach League Quarterfinals

The Crescenta Valley, Hoover and Glendale high school varsity girls’ tennis teams sent individuals to compete in the Pacific League prelims and finals at Burroughs High in Burbank on Oct. 23 and 25. The CIF Southern Section team playoff brackets will be released on Monday, Oct. 30.

CRESCENTA VALLEY
The tournament’s third-seeded singles player Natalie Mirbegian lost in the quarterfinal round to the No. 2 seed from Burbank by a score of 6-2, 7-5. Mirbegian defeated the sixth-seed from Burroughs 8-4 in the second round after sweeping the 14th-seed of Burbank, 8-0, in the opening match.
Claudia Chmielewski, the No. 4 seed, also bowed out in the quarterfinals, falling to her Arcadia counterpart, the tournament top seed, by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
Chmielewski secured victories against the fifth-seed from Arcadia, 8-1, in the second round, and the 13th-seed of Burroughs, 8-1.
Additionally, Anis Khachatryan, the seventh seed of the tournament, lost to the second seed from Burbank, 8-4, in the second round, after beating her Hoover opponent and 10th-seed, 8-5, in the opening round.
In doubles action, the fourth-seeded team of Liudmila Abadzheva and Elena Manuelian finished fourth after losing to the seventh-seeded team from Burbank by a 9-7 score. The duo fell to the doubles top seed from Arcadia in the quarterfinals by scores of 6-2, 6-1, but secured wins against the fifth-seed team from Arcadia (8-2) and the 13th-seeded Hoover duo (8-1) in the first two rounds. The second-seed of Nicolette Aghabegian and Gabriella Rouveyrol lost to the No. 10 Burbank team, 8-5, in the second round, after sweeping the 15th-seed team from Muir, 8-0, in the opening round. Additionally, the sixth-seed team of Falcons Hailee Yoon and Rama Kumarasuriar lost to the third-seeded Arcadia team with a score of 8-0, in the second round, following their victory against the 11th-seeded Burbank team, 8-2, in the opening round.

HOOVER
Ninth-seeded Jackyln Tolomyan suffered an 8-0 loss to the tournament top-seeded singles player from Arcadia in the second round, following a narrow 8-6 victory over the No. 8 seed from Glendale opening round. Meanwhile, Hoover’s Alexandra Nemirovskaya, the No. 10 seed, lost to Crescenta Valley High’s seventh-seed, 8-5, in the opening round.
In doubles action, the 13th-seeded Hoover team composed of Ani Weimar and Katherine Nalchajyan suffered an 8-1 defeat against the fourth-seeded Crescenta Valley team in the opening round, while the ninth-seeded team of Malvina Karapetyan and Kirsten Canon also lost in the opening round to the eighth-seeded Burbank team, 8-5.

GLENDALE
Eighth-seeded Lori Torosyan narrowly lost 8-6 in the opening round. Additionally, the 12th-seeded doubles team of Lilit Arakelyan and Natalie Mirzakhanyan fell to the fifth-seeded Arcadia team with a score of 8-3.
