Tornados Fend Off Nitros in League Showdown

The Hoover High School varsity girls’ tennis team secured a 13-5 victory over visiting Glendale in a Pacific League matchup on Sept. 26.
In singles play, No. 1 Jackyln Tolomyan swept with scores of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-4. No. 2 Alexandra Nemirovskaya matched her performance with sweeps of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2, while No. 3 Ani Weimar contributed with two set wins with scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
In the doubles matches, the No. 1 team of Evenna Amirian and Katherine Nalchajyan dominated with sweeps of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1. The No. 2 pairing of Savannah Sanchez and Malvina Karapetyan won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 7-6 (7-4).
The Tornados secured an impressive 16-2 league victory at Pasadena on Sept. 21.
In singles play, No. 3 Amirian swept her opponents with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0. No. 1 Tolomyan contributed two wins with scores of 6-3 and 6-0. No. 2 Nemirovskaya also won two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-0 before alternating with Mary Ghazarian, who added a 6-3 win. In the doubles matches, the No. 2 team of Ava Minassian and Karapetyan swept with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. The No. 1 duo of Weimar and Nalchajyan contributed two wins with scores of 6-0 and 6-1 before rotating with Sophia Stepanyan and Hasmik Antonian, who added a 6-0 victory. The No. 3 pairing of Anita Avitisyan and Kirsten Canon also won two sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Hoover will visit Burbank for a league contest on Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on Oct. 5.

GLENDALE
The Nitros suffered a 13-5 Pacific League loss at Hoover High on Sept. 26.
In doubles action, the No. 2 team of Marie Kaloghlian and Garine Melkonian secured two sets with scores of 6-4 and 7-5. The No. 1 pairing of Gohar Harutyunyan and Pauline Tekelian contributed with a 7-6 (8-6) win, while the No. 3 duo of Kristy Tarbinian and Medrisya Minassian added a 6-2 victory. Meanwhile, No. 3 singles player Lori Torosyan secured a set win with a score of 6-3.
Glendale was previously swept in a league match at powerhouse Arcadia 18-0.
The Nitros will host Pasadena for a league contest on Oct. 3 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Crescenta Valley High on Oct. 5.

CRESCENTA VALLEY
The Falcons suffered a 10-8 loss at Arcadia in a Pacific League matchup on Sept. 26.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Gabriella Rouveyrol and Nicolette Aghabegian swept with scores of 7-5, 6-1 and 6-2.
In singles action, No. 2 Natalie Mirbegian secured two victories with scores of 6-2 and 6-0, while No. 3 Claudia Chmielewski delivered two wins with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Meanwhile, No. 1 Anais Khachatryan added a 6-1 win.
CVHS secured an impressive 15-3 nonleague victory at The Webb School in Claremont on Sept. 25.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Rouveyrol and Aghabegian dominated with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2. The No. 2 pairing of Liudmila Abadzheva and Elena Manuelian matched their performance with a sweep of their own with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2. The No. 3 tandem of Faith Woo and Linnea Russell contributed with two wins with scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
In singles, No. 1 Khachatryan started with a convincing 6-0 win before alternating with Ariah Armen, who added a 6-1 victory. No. 2 Mirbegian secured a set win with a score of 6-2 before alternating with Anna Poghosyan, who won two sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-2. No. 3 Chmielewski secured a pair of 6-0 victories.
Crescenta Valley secured an 11-5 league victory against Burbank on Sept. 21.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Abadzheva and Manuelian swept with a trio of 6-2 scores. The No. 2 pairing of Rouveyrol and Aghabegian matched their performance with a straight-sets victory by scores of 7-5, 6-1 and 6-2. The No. 3 duo of Hailee Yoon and Rama Kumarasuriar contributed with two set wins with scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
In the singles matches, No. 1 Khachatryan won one set 6-3. No. 2 Mirbegian added a set win with a score of 6-4, while No. 3 Chmielewski also won a set with a score of 6-3.
The Falcons will host Muir High of Pasadena for a league match on Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Glendale on Oct. 5.
