Falcons Remain Unbeaten in Pacific League

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ volleyball team swept host Hoover High, 25-15, 25-22, 25-10, in a Pacific League match on Sept. 12.
Junior captain Sofia Shin racked up 18 digs, six aces, four assists and one kill, while junior Caden Pinto collected 19 assists, three aces and three digs. Senior Jessica Romero tallied nine assists, two digs and one kill, senior Emma Santa Ana contributed eight kills, and sophomore Hayden Shirvanian produced six kills and three digs. Senior Natalie Avakian recorded three aces and two digs, junior Eva Portnaya finished with four kills and one dig, and junior captain Isabel Haytayan registered three kills and one dig. Junior Noelani Joo, junior Hannah Wyroski and freshman Adelyn Lopez each had three kills and one dig, while senior Jamie Shoemake was credited with two kills and one dig. Senior Pilar Garcia notched four digs and two aces, senior Sophia Aroyan had three digs, and seniors Sofia Santiago and Cameron Ouye each had two digs.
The Falcons swept visiting Burbank, 25-9, 25-9, 25-14, in a league match on Sept. 7 as Shin collected 18 digs, four assists and one ace.
Romero contributed nine assists, seven digs, two aces and one kill, while Pinto finished with seven assists, four digs and three kills. Haytayan and Wyroski each tallied six kills and two digs while Lopez recorded six kills and one ace. Avakian was credited with three aces, three digs and one assist, Joo registered three kills and one dig, and Shoemake had three kills. Aroyan had five digs while Ouye produced four digs and one assist. Santa Ana and Santiago each notched one dig while Santiago had one ace.
CVHS (13-2 overall, 5-0 in league) will host Glendale for a league match on Sept. 19 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on Sept. 21.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Arianna Vargas finished with eight digs and three kills during a recent Pacific League match against Arcadia.


The Nitros were swept at Arcadia, 11-25, 11-25, 20-25, in a Pacific League match on Sept. 7.
Junior Aleina Manaois finished with seven kills and seven digs, senior Arianna Vargas contributed eight digs and three kills, and junior Emerson Whiting was credited with 11 assists. Junior Breanna Cuellar tallied six blocks while junior Mika Valiente recorded four blocks.
Glendale (7-5 overall, 2-2 in league) will visit Crescenta Valley High for a league match on Sept. 19 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Hoover High on Sept. 21.


HOOVER
The Tornados were swept in a recent pair of Pacific League matches against Crescenta Valley High, 15-25, 22-25, 10-25, and Pasadena, 7-25, 13-25, 13-25. Individual player statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press by the Hoover coaching staff.
Hoover (1-9 overall, 0-5 in league) will host Burroughs High of Burbank for a league match on Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Glendale on Sept. 21.
