CV Finishes Runner-Up in Poly Tournament

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ water polo team posted a 15-11 nonleague victory at South Pasadena on Tuesday.
Mark Abdou accumulated nine saves while Alex Movsesyan scored four goals. Dion Alexanians, Daron Alexanians, Brayden Shabani, Sebastian Rivera and Levon Babayan each notched two goals while Aaron Choi had one goal.
The Falcons finished second in the Pasadena Polytechnic Tournament last weekend after losing to the host school 9-7 in the championship game.
CVHS finished tournament pool play undefeated after beating Flintridge Prep of La Cañada Flintridge 13-8. Babayan finished with four goals, Shabani and Rivera each scored three goals, and Devin Janparian, Dion Alexanians and Movsesyan each added one goal.
The Falcons defeated La Cañada 15-8 to wrap up the first day of tournament action.
Daron Alexanians, Shabani and Babayan each scored three goals, Rivera recorded two goals and Edgar Galstyan, Owen Schroeder, Vince Kalachian and Choi each had one goal.
Crescenta Valley opened the season and tournament with a 12-8 victory over Sunny Hills High of Fullerton as Daron Alexanians racked up seven goals. Teammates Choi, Babayan, Galstyan, Schroeder and Movsesyan each contributed one goal to help secure a season-opening victory.
The Falcons (4-1 overall) will visit San Marino for a nonleague game on Tuesday at 4 p.m.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School’s Vardges Hakobyan scored one goal during a recent nonleague game against Crespi High.

The Nitros lost to visiting Crespi High of Encino 15-7 in a nonleague game on Monday.
August Kalaba recorded three goals and one steal, while Arno Ghazaryan finished with two goals and one steal. Vardges Hakobyan tallied one goal and one steal, Robert Lazaryan scored once and David Zakaryan contributed seven saves.
Glendale previously lost a nonleague game against visiting San Marino 15-3. Kalaba registered one goal and one steal, while Lazaryan and Hakobyan each produced one goal. Zakaryan collected nine saves, and Aidan Fieda and Ghazaryan each had one steal.
The Nitros (1-3 overall) will visit Pasadena Polytechnic for a nonleague game on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. before visiting La Habra on Thursday.


HOOVER

The Tornados were edged Whittier 9-8 in their season opener on Aug. 24. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Hoover (0-1 overall) recently competed in the Corona Tournament and will next host Rowland High of Rowland Heights for a nonleague game on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
