Falcons Play for CIF Championship

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ lacrosse team punched its ticket to this afternoon’s CIF-Southern Section Division II title game after beating host Murrieta Mesa High in Murrieta, 13-11, in a semifinal on Wednesday.
CVHS senior captain Brianne Ballard registered four goals and one assist while sophomore teammates Camden Ballard and Sophia Lima each scored three goals. Senior captain Sophia Kachkeran and senior Shari Park each tallied one goal and one assist while sophomore Hannah Yi had one assist.
With the win, the Falcons (17-5 overall record) advanced to the championship game and will battle Palos Verdes (14-8) for the CIF Division II title at 3 p.m. at Downey High School today, Saturday.
CVHS had collected a narrow 15-14 victory at San Juan Hills High of San Juan Capistrano in a CIF quarterfinal game on Monday as Camden Ballard racked up six goals and one assist. Brianne Ballard registered four goals and three assists while Lima produced three goals and one assist. Park tallied one goal and two assists, Kachkeran scored once and junior Isabella Torres made four saves.
CVHS previously defeated visiting Canyon High of Anaheim, 14-7, in a CIF second-round game after receiving a first-round bye. Camden Ballard finished with four goals and one assist, Brianne Ballard recorded three goals and three assists, and Lima scored three goals. Park tallied two goals and one assist while sophomore Kaylani Parker and Kachkeran each scored once. Senior captain Ashlyn Burton and Yi were each credited with one assist while Torres had two saves.
