Falcons Stun Burroughs in League Match

or the first time since 2009, the Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ volleyball team defeated Burroughs High in Burbank, 22-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-19, in a Pacific League match last Friday.
It was Burroughs’ first home league loss since 2013 while the Falcons positioned themselves nicely for a shot at their first league championship since 2004.
Senior Drew Puttler racked up 25 assists, 11 digs, four kills, two aces and one block, senior Jason Nelson registered 12 kills, five digs, four blocks, one ace and one assist, and junior Logan Freemon tallied 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks. Senior William Allen finished with seven kills, seven digs, one block and one assist, senior Dylan Hsu had six digs and three assists, and junior Matt Hong produced four aces, one assist and one dig. Sophomore Colin Walley recorded three blocks, two kills and one dig while senior Will Chin collected two blocks and one kill.
The Falcons previously swept host Arcadia, 25-19, 30-28, 25-21, in a league matchup as Puttler amassed 43 assists, 11 digs, two aces and two blocks. Allen racked up 14 kills, five digs, one ace and one block, Freemon registered 14 kills, five digs and one ace, and Nelson tallied 12 kills, five digs and one block. Chin produced seven kills and one block while Hsu finished with nine digs and five assists. Walley recorded two kills and two blocks while Hong had one dig.
CVHS (17-7 overall, 5-0 in league) will visit Pasadena for a league match on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Arcadia in a crucial league rematch on April 13.

GLENDALE

The Nitros were swept at Arcadia in a Pacific League match last Friday.
Ergueen Herrera recorded eight kills, six digs and three blocks while Quan Tran tallied 12 digs and six kills. Vraj Bhagat produced four blocks and three kills, Tad Whiting registered six blocks and two kills, and Nathan Francisco finished with 11 digs.
Glendale was previously edged in a league match at Burbank, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 27-29, 15-13. Herrera recorded nine kills, seven digs and three aces, Thomas Gonzales tallied five kills and two blocks, and Koko Haboian and Justin Demonteverde each produced 12 assists. Nick Ramirez had six kills while Whiting made five blocks.
The Nitros (13-4 overall, 1-3 in league) will host Burroughs High of Burbank for a league match on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Burbank on April 13.
