Falcons, Nitros Win League Openers

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ volleyball team recently swept visiting Burbank, 25-16, 25-22, 25-23, in its Pacific League opener as senior Drew Puttler racked up 28 assists, four digs, one ace and one kill.
Junior Logan Freemon registered 13 kills, five digs, one ace, one block and one assist, senior Jason Nelson tallied 11 kills, three aces, two digs and one block, and senior William Allen produced 10 kills, six digs, two aces, two blocks and one assist. Senior William Chin finished with six kills and one dig, junior Matt Hong recorded six assists, three digs and one kill, and senior Dylan Hsu collected seven digs and two assists. Sophomore Colin Walley had one kill and one block while junior Benjamin Hart had one block.
The Falcons (13-6 overall, 1-0 in league) will host St. Francis High of La Cañada Flintridge for a nonleague matchup tonight at 6 p.m. before visiting Arcadia on March 29.

GLENDALE

The Nitros posted their fourth consecutive victory after sweeping host Muir High in Pasadena, 25-14, 25-7, 25-10, in a nonleague match on Tuesday.
Junior Koko Haboian finished with 18 assists, four digs and two aces, senior Ergueen Herrera registered 11 kills, seven digs and four aces, and sophomore Tad Whiting tallied seven blocks and five kills.
Glendale edged visiting Castaic, 21-25, 13-25, 27-25, 25-18, 15-9, in a thrilling come-from-behind nonleague matchup on Monday. Herrera produced 14 kills and four digs while Haboian recorded 20 assists. Whiting tallied seven kills, seven blocks and two aces, junior Vraj Bhagat finished with eight blocks and junior Thomas Gonzales had five kills.
The Nitros previously won their Pacific League opener against visiting Pasadena, 21-25, 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12. Herrera amassed 31 kills, 16 digs, six assists and two blocks while Haboian racked up 40 assists and 11 digs. Whiting produced eight kills, eight blocks and six digs, sophomore Quan Tran recorded six kills and 16 digs, and Gonzales finished with six kills, seven blocks, three digs and two aces.
Glendale (12-2 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit South El Monte for a nonleague match on Monday, March 27, at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Burbank on March 29.
