Nitros, Tornados, Falcons Open League Play

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team defeated host Pasadena, 6-1, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Connor Campbell allowed one unearned run on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings to earn the win. Nico Terenzi, who had a hit and scored twice on offense, earned the save after tossing 1.1 scoreless frames with a strikeout. Tyler Garland went 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI while Dashiell Schultz went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a stolen base, a run and a walk. Brandon Kwon tallied a hit, a walk and an RBI while Jimmy Spears scored once and stole a base. Jake Rendo finished with a walk and an RBI, Jake Deno produced two walks and a run, and Ryan Ivanyi had a walk and a run.
The Falcons lost a nonleague game against visiting Montebello, 4-3, last Saturday. Chris Torres recorded a hit and two runs while Ivanyi tallied a hit, a stolen base and an RBI. Terenzi walked once and stole a base, Spears scored once and Garland had a stolen base. Jonah Yi allowed an unearned run on three hits and no walks while striking out one across three innings.
CVHS defeated visiting Glendale, 7-4, in a league game last Friday as Terenzi, who had a double, two runs and a walk at the plate, pitched a complete game with five strikeouts. Ivanyi went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, an RBI, a run and a walk, Garland went 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI and a walk, and Rendo registered a double and an RBI. Deno recorded a hit and an RBI while Charlie Carafotes finished with a hit and a run. Kwon had a walk and a run, Everett Pam produced an RBI and Schultz walked once.
The Falcons previously blanked host Glendale, 6-0, in their league opener as Campbell twirled a complete game shutout with five strikeouts while allowing four hits and no walks. Spears went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run while Torres went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Ivanyi recorded a hit, a walk and two RBIs, Kwon produced a hit, two stolen bases and a run, Deno finished with a hit and an RBI and Terenzi had a hit. Garland registered two walks, an RBI and a run while Andrew Klein and Rendo tallied a walk and a run.
Crescenta Valley (5-3 overall, 3-0 in league) will host Kennedy High of Granada Hills for a nonleague game on Monday, March 13, at 7 p.m.

Glendale High School senior captain Frankie Malagon went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to help the Nitros defeat Burbank in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.

The Nitros blanked host Burbank, 6-0, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday as senior Levi Valadez, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, tossed a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts while allowing five hits and three walks.
Senior captain Frankie Malagon went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. Junior Jason Martinez went 2-for-3 with a run while sophomore Joe Tapia recorded two hits and a stolen base. Senior Sean Forero finished with a hit and an RBI while junior Austin Aldrete tallied a hit. Seniors Javier Solis and Neil Dewan each had a walk and a run.
Glendale recently lost a league game at Crescenta Valley High, 7-4, as Malagon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Forero recorded a hit, two runs and an RBI, Aldrete tallied a hit and an RBI, and senior Josh Hopkins finished with a hit, a walk and a run. Martinez registered a hit and a stolen base, senior Erik Chavez and Tapia each produced a base hit, and freshman Jeremy Furhman scored once.
The Nitros previously lost a league game against visiting Crescenta Valley High, 6-0. Martinez went 2-for-3 while Forero, Dewan and Chavez each had a hit.
Glendale (3-5 overall, 1-2 in league) will visit Kennedy High in La Palma for a nonleague game on Tuesday, March 14, at 3:15 p.m.

Hoover High School junior Julian Corral recorded a hit during a Pacific League game against Arcadia on Tuesday.

HOOVER

The Tornados lost a Pacific League game at Arcadia, 7-0, on Tuesday.
Junior Julian Corral recorded a hit, junior Bryan Olmedo reached on a walk and a hit-by-pitch, and senior Fernando Gallegos walked once. Freshman Jordan Mahler pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief while allowing one hit and two walks.
The Tornados recently lost a league matchup against visiting Burroughs High of Burbank, 10-0. Freshman Isaiah Magana, Corral and Gallegos each recorded a hit while senior Brandon Piehr walked once.
Hoover was previously no-hit at Burroughs High in a 10-0 league-opening loss.
The Tornados (2-5 overall, 0-3 in league) will visit Excelsior Charter High in Victorville on Monday, March 13, at 3:30 p.m.
