This week, Crescenta Valley High School Instrumental Music Director Mathew Schick was celebrated by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond at the 2023 California Teacher of the Year Gala.
He was recognized alongside 13 outstanding educators from across the state.
Over his 30-year career, Schick has helped hundreds of students develop their passion and talent for instrumental music. He has served as instrumental music director as Crescenta Valley High School since 2001, where he manages five different instrumental bands who perform at highly competitive levels.
Schick was first recognized as Glendale Unified School District’s 2022 Teacher of the Year last May. He then went on to be named a Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year and a Caifornia Teacher of the Year finalist.
