Falcons Post 2 Wins; Nitros, Tornados Fall

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team completed the season sweep over visiting Burroughs High of Burbank with an 80-55 Pacific League victory on Tuesday.
Senior Armen Yetenekian racked up 21 points with six rebounds while senior Mikail Grigoryan posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists. Senior Sebastian Tahmasian registered 13 points and eight boards, sophomore Vaughn Zargarian 12 points and five assists, and senior Alex Altounian tallied six points and 11 rebounds.
The Falcons previously defeated Hoover High in a league matchup, 78-61, as Grigoryan amassed 29 points with three assists. Tahmasian poured in 12 points with five boards while Yetenekian recorded 11 points and six rebounds. Altounian finished with eight points and 10 boards, sophomore Julius Washington scored seven points and Zargarian had six points.
Second-place CVHS hosted sixth-place Glendale yesterday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’s deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Falcons (20-4 overall, 9-2 in league) will visit Muir High in Pasadena for a league matchup before hosting Arcadia in their regular-season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School sophomore Josh Ballard poured in 22 points during a Pacific League game against Muir High on Tuesday.

The Nitros were defeated by visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 60-54, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Sophomore Josh Ballard racked up 22 points while junior Christian Pierre poured in 10 points. Senior Dior Pierre registered six points, senior Mika Petrosian scored five points, and junior Haig Jivalagian tallied four points. Seniors Nico Zadorian and Denzel Lora each recorded three points while senior Alex Aghaian had one point.
Glendale previously lost a league game against visiting powerhouse Pasadena, 63-51. Jivalagian racked up 18 points while Lora and Christian Pierre each poured in 10 points. Dior Pierre and Ballard each scored four points, Petrosian finished with three points, and senior Tino Zadorian produced two points.
The sixth-place Nitros visited second-place Crescenta Valley High yesterday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’s deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Glendale (11-15 overall, 3-8 in league) will host Burbank for a league matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 31, before visiting intracity rival Hoover High for its regular-season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2.

HOOVER

Hoover High School’s Zack Van Patten racked up 23 points during a Pacific League game against Arcadia on Tuesday.

The Tornados lost at Arcadia, 56-42, in a Pacific League rematch on Tuesday as Zack Van Patten racked up 23 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Justin Herrera poured in 11 points with three assists while James Akerman registered six points and eight boards. Mo Shareef produced two points, eight rebounds and four assists while Jenghiz Van Patten collected six boards.
Hoover previously lost a league game at Crescenta Valley, 78-61, as Zack Van Patten amassed 28 points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds. Shareef poured in 12 points with four assists, two steals and two boards while Herrera recorded 10 points, two assists, one rebound and one steal. Akerman tallied seven points, two steals and two boards while Jenghiz Van Patten scored four points with eight rebounds, two steals and one assist. Aramais Melkonyan collected six boards and two assists, Jason Santiago had one steal and Kyle Arakelian posted one assist.
The eighth-place Tornados visited fifth-place Burbank yesterday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’s deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Hoover (5-17 overall, 0-11 in league) will host Pasadena on Tuesday, Jan. 31, before hosting intracity rival Glendale for its regular-season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2.
