Falcons, Nitros Compete in South Pasadena Tournament

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team notched its fourth consecutive victory after defeating Esperanza High of Anaheim, 65-62, in a South Pasadena Tournament game Wednesday night.
Senior Armen Yetenekian racked up 21 points, including six 3-pointers, senior Mikail Grigoryan registered 21 points and sophomore Vaughn Zargarian scored eight points.
The Falcons routed Fremont High of Los Angeles, 65-25, in their tournament opener on Tuesday. Grigoryan poured in a team-high 18 points, sophomore Julius Washington recorded nine points, four rebounds and four assists, and senior Alex Altounian finished with seven points and seven boards. Zargarian scored seven points while Yetenekian collected seven rebounds.
CVHS previously defeated host Glendale in a Pacific League game, 79-65, as Altounian posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards. Grigoryan racked up 14 points, five rebounds and five assists, senior Sebastian Tahmasian scored 13 points, and Washington poured in 13 points with four boards and four assists. Zargarian tallied nine points and three rebounds while Yetenekian had nine boards.
Following the conclusion of the South Pasadena Tournament this week, the Falcons (12-3 overall, 3-1 in league) will resume league action at Burroughs High in Burbank on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 5 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Nico Zadorian finished with eight points in a South Pasadena Tournament game against North High of Torrance this week.

The Nitros lost to North High of Torrance, 57-37, at the South Pasadena Tournament on Wednesday.
Senior Nico Zadorian finished with eight points while senior Dior Pierre tallied seven points. Senior Tino Zadorian drained a pair of threes, junior Mika Petrosian and sophomore Josh Ballard each scored six points, and junior Haig Jivalagian had four points.
Glendale defeated Eastside High of Lancaster, 61-57, in its tournament opener on Tuesday, as Tino Zadorian amassed 26 points, including seven 3-pointers. Dior Pierre poured in 13 points, Jivalagian recorded nine points, Ballard had five points and Petrosian scored four points.
The Nitros previously lost a Pacific League game to visiting Crescenta Valley, 79-65, as Dior Pierre racked up a game-high 24 points. Junior Christian Pierre, Ballard and Nico Zadorian each recorded nine points while Petrosian scored six points, Tino Zadorian finished with five points, senior Alex Aghaian tallied two points and senior Denzell Lora had one point.
Following the conclusion of the South Pasadena Tournament this week, Glendale (8-9 overall, 1-3 in league) will resume league play at Muir High in Pasadena on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 5 p.m.

HOOVER

Hoover High School’s Justin Herrera registered 18 points, five steals and five assists in a Pacific League game against Crescenta Valley High last week.

The Tornados snapped their six-game losing streak after beating visiting Apple Valley, 68-55, in a nonleague game on Wednesday.
Justin Herrera racked up 19 points, five steals, two assists and one rebound, James Akerman registered 18 points, seven boards and one assist, and Mo Shareef poured in 16 points with eight assists and four rebounds. Jenghiz Van Patten tallied seven points, four boards, two blocks and one steal while Zack Van Patten finished with six points, seven rebounds and three assists. Aramais Melkonyan scored one point with six boards, two blocks and one assist, Hagop Demirjian collected one steal and one assist, Kyle Arakelian recorded one block and Shant Zargarian had one rebound.
Hoover previously dropped a Pacific League game against visiting Burbank, 69-56.
Herrera registered 18 points, five steals, five assists and one block, Akerman poured in 16 points with three boards, one assist and one steal, and Zack Van Patten tallied 12 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals. Jenghiz Van Patten recorded six points, seven boards, three assists, two blocks and two steals, Melkonyan scored four points with two steals and one rebound, and Demirjian had five boards and two assists.
The Tornados (4-10 overall, 0-4 in league) will resume league action by hosting Arcadia this week.
