CV, Hoover, Glendale Athletes Earn League Honors

The Pacific League recently released its all-league awards for football, girls’ volleyball, boys’ water polo, girls’ tennis and cross-country following the completion of the fall season.
Glendale, Hoover and Crescenta Valley high school athletes were recognized for their season-long accomplishments, hard work and outstanding contributions to their teams.
Area coaches were also honored, as Hoover girls’ tennis head coach Mher Ivynian, Crescenta Valley cross-country head coach Mark Evans and girls’ volleyball head coach Matt Simons, and Glendale High girls’ water polo head coach Narek Vardanian were each named Pacific League coaches of the year in their respective sports.

  • Hoover High School girls’ tennis head coach Mher Ivynian was named the Pacific League coach of the year.
  • Glendale’s Gregory Carrillo was selected first-team All-Pacific League.
  • Glendale High School girls’ water polo head coach Narek Vardanian was named the Pacific League coach of the year.
  • Crescenta Valley High School’s Sofia Shin was named the Pacific League co-player of the year along with her teammate Nyra Tatoulian (not pictured).

FOOTBALL

Crescenta Valley had seven players earn all-league recognition. Shade Schaefer was first-team offense while Michael Balian earned first-team defense honors. Jordan Towns IV and Byorn Hermansen were named second-team offense, Tyler Oliver was second-team defense, and Cristian Flores and Jason Nelson each earned an honorable mention on offense and defense, respectively.
Hoover’s Ethan Davis was second-team offense, Frank Higginbotham III was a second-team defensive selection, and Daniel Rangel and Vaghinak Sakanyan each earned an honorable mention on offense and defense, respectively.
Glendale’s Justin Melville was second-team offense, Dan Autrey was named second-team defense, and Joseph Caballero and Ethan Faria each earned an honorable mention on offense and defense, respectively.

CROSS-COUNTRY

The Falcons had 11 athletes run away with a majority of cross-country league awards. Parker Simmons, Harrison Connors, Luke Cheney and Eddie Sion were each named first team, while Jamie Cartnal, Joshua Chambers and Reed Sinclair were second-team selections for the boys’ squad. Emilia Greenway and Annabelle Tanner earned first-team honors, while Emma Haworth and Julia Linney earned second team selections for the girls’ squad.
Hoover’s Emma Canal was named first team while Glendale’s Lilit Arakelyan and Alea Nagasawa earned second-team honors for the girls’ squad.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

The Falcons had seven players earn all-league awards, led by Sofia Shin and Nyra Tatoulian who were each named co-players of the year. Hyacinth Ang, Jana Coffeen and Rory Reedy-Solano each earned first team selections, Isabel Haytayan was named to the second team, and Caden Pinto earned an honorable mention.
Glendale’s Aleina Manaois earned first team honors, while Arianna Vargas was a second team selection. Glendale’s Emmi Whiting and Hoover’s Hera Hovsepian each earned an honorable mention.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Glendale’s Gregory Carrillo and Arthur Ter-Matevosyan were named first-team all-league, Arno Ghazaryan and Artin Ghazaryan each earned second team honors, and Andrew Azizian was an honorable mention.
Crescenta Valley’s Michael Petersen was a first team selection, Logan Freemon earned second team honors, and Eugene Lee was an honorable mention.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

All-league awards in girls’ tennis were earned by Arcadia athletes except for a doubles honorable mention to a pair of Burbank players.
