Local Squads Open League This Week

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ basketball team edged Ventura, 54-52, in the Calabasas Viewpoint tournament finale last Saturday.
Junior Lulu Arzoumanian racked up 18 points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds, junior Kylie Ray poured in 15 points with five steals, three assists and one board, and senior Victoria Prochazka registered 13 points, one block and one assist. Senior Melissa Dayag scored six points with three steals and two rebounds, while sophomore Darby Stayton tallied two points, three boards and one block. Senior Aleek Zakarian produced two steals, one assist and one rebound, while senior Taleen Krikorian collected a pair of steals. Sophomore Keira Calaguas had one block, while senior Kristen Olavi finished with one assist.
CVHS reentered the win column after defeating Highland High of Palmdale, 71-62, in a tournament game last Friday, as Ray amassed 27 points with four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Prochazka racked up 13 points, five boards, one block, one steal and one assist, while Krikorian poured in 11 points with four assists and three steals. Arzoumanian registered eight points, six steals, four assists and one block, Olavi tallied four points, one steal and one assist, and Dayag and Zakarian each scored a 3-pointer with a steal. Stayton recorded two points, while Calaguas had two assists.
The Falcons previously lost their first game of the season after falling to Hart High of Newhall in a tournament game, 68-57.
Crescenta Valley (7-1 overall) opened Pacific League action by hosting Burbank yesterday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’s deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Falcons will visit Pasadena for a league game on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m.

GLENDALE

The Nitros routed host Sultana High of Hesperia, 44-5, in a nonleague game on Monday, as senior captain Jane Bassil racked up 11 points, eight rebounds, three steals and one assist.
Junior Sella Koshkerian tallied seven points, four boards, two steals and two assists, sophomore Pateel Krikorian registered six points and one rebound, and junior Pateel Koshkerian finished with five points, four steals, four boards and two assists. Sophomore Natalia Andriassian produced four points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist, while junior Carmen Avedian had four points, two steals and two boards. Junior Michelle Mirzakhanian recorded two points, six rebounds, one block and one steal, while junior Kalin Zadoori posted two points, eight boards and one steal.
Glendale finished competing in the Arroyo tournament last weekend, placing third with a 3-1 record while Sella Koshkerian and Bassil each earned all-tournament honors.
The Nitros posted a dominant 43-26 victory over Temple City in their tournament finale on Saturday, as Sella Koshkerian registered a double-double with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, 11 rebounds and one block. Bassil poured in nine points with 19 boards, four steals and three assists, Pateel Koshkerian recorded six points, four boards, three steals and one assist, and Avedian produced six points, four rebounds and one steal. Andriassian finished with two points, six boards, one steal and one assist, Zadoori tallied two points and three rebounds, and Mirzakhanian had one board and one steal.

Mirzakhanian tallied two points and two blocks, sophomore Aleek Khanamerian posted three boards, and Krikorian had one rebound.

HOOVER

Hoover sophomore Emily Aghazarian (white jersey) scored three points in a nonleague game this week.

The Tornados lost at South Hills High in West Covina, 83-15, in a nonleague game on Tuesday. Junior Natalie Velasquez, sophomore Iren Musayelyan and freshman Yeva Awades each sank a 3-pointer, while sophomore Emily Aghazarian scored three points. Freshman Marjorie McClain tallied two points, while sophomore Yadhira Sanchez Lopez had one point.
Hoover (0-5 overall) opened Pacific League action by hosting Muir High of Pasadena yesterday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Tornados will host Burroughs High of Burbank in a league game on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m.
