Nitros, Falcons Open CIF Playoffs With Wins

The Glendale High School varsity boys’ water polo team survived the first round of the CIF-SS Division IV playoffs after edging visiting Valley View High of Moreno Valley, 10-9, on Tuesday.
Senior Arthur Ter-Matevosyan, senior Andrew Azizian, sophomore August Kalaba and Tigran Megroyan each scored a pair of goals, while juniors Arno Ghazaryan and Andrew Klujian each recorded one goal.
The Nitros advanced to the second round and visited Yucaipa late this week; the game finished after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, Glendale (15-16 overall) would advance to the quarterfinals and meet either Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks (17-11 overall) or Vista Murrieta (14-7 overall) on Saturday, Nov. 5.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

Crescenta Valley High School goalie Logan Freemon amassed 22 saves to help the Falcons win their CIF-SS Division III opener over visiting Diamond Bar, 19-6.

The Falcons routed visiting Diamond Bar, 19-6, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division III playoffs on Tuesday.
Goalie Logan Freemon made 22 saves while Jacob Choe produced a game-high four goals. Alex Movsesyan, Eugene Lee and Michael Petersen each registered three goals, Daron Alexanians scored a pair of goals, and Levon Babayan, Andrew Sarkissian, Devin Janparian and Sam Yang each had one goal.
Crescenta Valley (14-13 overall) advanced to the second round and hosted Irvine late this week; the game finished after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victories, CVHS would advance to the quarterfinals and meet either Chaparral High of Temecula (12-2 overall) or Claremont (17-5 overall) on Saturday, Nov. 5.
