Falcons, Nitros, Tornados in League Action

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ tennis team dominated host Burroughs High in Burbank in a Pacific League match, 17-1, on Tuesday afternoon.
The singles players were perfect, as No. 2 Natalie Mirbegian (6-0, 6-3, 6-1) and No. 3 Claudia Chmielewski (6-1, 6-1, 6-0) each swept. No. 1 Nicolette Aghabegian won her opening set 7-6 (7-1) before rotating with Ariah Armen, who completed the sweep by posting a pair of wins, 6-3, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Liudmila Abadzheva and Elena Manuelian (6-2, 6-1, 6-1), and the No. 3 tandem of Lexi Sheynin and Gabriella Rouveyrol (6-0, 6-1, 6-0) each swept. The No. 1 duo of Ramya Kumarasuriar and Kristen Kim won a set, 7-5, before the latter was rotated for Hailee Yoon, who helped Kumarasuriar pick up a 6-1 victory in the third set.
The Falcons previously swept visiting Pasadena in a league match, 18-0, as No. 1 singles Kim swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 Sheynin registered a pair of 6-0 victories before rotating with Manuelian, who won one set 6-4. No. 3 Armen also won a pair of sets by 6-0 scores before rotating with Abadzheva, who completed the sweep with a 6-2 win. The No. 2 team of Kumarasuriar and Chmielewski (6-1, 6-0, 6-0), and the No. 3 duo of Aghabegian and Yoon (6-1, 6-1, 6-2) each swept. Meanwhile, the No. 1 tandem of Crystal Smith and Amanda An won a set, 7-6, before rotating with Rouveyrol and Mirbegian, who tallied a pair of wins, 6-1, 6-0.
CVHS will continue league play at Hoover High on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 3:30 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale senior Liana Aghakhani and her doubles parter Gohar Harutyunyan (not pictured) recorded a pair of 6-2 victories to help the Nitros defeat Eagle Rock.

The Nitros lost a Pacific League matchup on Tuesday at Burbank, 13-5. The No. 1 doubles team of senior Tifany Tarbinian and junior Lilit Arakelyan swept, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4, while No. 1 singles Yeva Sirakanyan and No. 3 Lori Torosyan each won a set, 6-0.
Glendale dominated visiting Eagle Rock in a nonleague match on Monday, 14-4. The No. 1 doubles team of seniors Sarah Davtyan and Nairy Manoukian (6-1, 6-2, 6-2), the No. 2 tandem of Tarbinian and Arakelyan (6-1, 6-2, 6-1), and No. 1 singles Natalie Mirzakhanyan (7-6, 6-4, 6-1) each swept. The No. 3 duo of senior Liana Aghakhani and junior Gohar Harutyunyan (6-2, 6-2), and No. 3 singles Torosyan (6-1, 6-0) each picked up a pair of victories, while No. 2 singles Lizzie Davtyan won a set, 6-2.
The Nitros previously edged visiting Burroughs High of Burbank in a league contest after tying 9-9 but winning by total games, 82-69. The No. 2 team of Tarbinian and Arakelyan swept, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, while No. 1 singles Mirzakhanyan (6-2, 6-2) and No. 3 singles Torosyan (6-1, 6-3) each registered a pair of victories. Meanwhile, the No. 1 tandem of Sarah Davtyan and Manoukian, and the No. 3 duo of Aghakhani and Harutyunyan each won a set, 6-1.
Glendale will continue league action by hosting Pasadena on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 3:30 p.m.

HOOVER

The Tornados were swept last Thursday in a Pacific League matchup at Arcadia, 18-0. No. 1 singles Ani Weimar won three games, while No. 2 Malvina Karapetyan and No. 3 Katherine Nalchajyan each won one game. The No. 1 doubles team of Agape Keshishian and Julia Jagaspanyan won six games, while the No. 2 tandem of Camille La Torre and Jacklyn Tolmoyan won four games.
Hoover will continue league action by hosting Crescenta Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 3:30 p.m.
