Nitros Lose to South El Monte, 34-0

The Glendale High School varsity football team remained winless after losing to visiting South El Monte, 34-0, as the Nitros were missing 16 players for last Friday’s game.
Despite the shutout, the Nitros’ offensive effort was led by Joseph Caballero, who rushed for 158 yards on 28 carries. He also added a 6-yard reception and six tackles on defense.
Jonathan Anaya made a 5-yard catch and had eight tackles, while Jonathan Wells made a 4-yard reception. Isaac Quiroz completed a pair of passes for 11 yards, while Brady Aldrete made one 4-yard pass.
Ethan Faria collected eight tackles and a pair of sacks, Alex Shirvanian and Joseph Guarderas each posted six tackles, and Freddie Rios produced four tackles and one sack. Chino Alonzo, Austin Aldrete and Anthony Mendoza each recorded four tackles, Alexis Bonilla and Chima Cosmas each had three tackles, and Ryan De Luna and Kevin Rosas made two and one tackles, respectively.
The Nitros (0-6 overall) battled undefeated Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia Friday; the nonleague game finished after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Glendale will visit Sierra Vista High in Baldwin Park to continue nonleague action on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
