Tornados Improve to 5-0 After Beating Temple City

The Hoover High School varsity football team improved to 5-0 to start the season for a second straight year after defeating visiting Temple City, 19-14, in a nonleague game last Friday.
The Tornados trailed after the first quarter, 8-6, but a huge third quarter saw Hoover take a 19-8 lead.
Junior quarterback Ethan Davis completed 6-of-10 passes for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 6 yards on four carries, and senior Andrew Torres rushed for a game-high 103 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.
Senior Vaghinak Sakanyan had a pair of receptions for a team-high 38 yards and a touchdown, senior Frank Higginbotham lll made one catch for a 14-yard touchdown, and senior Daniel Rangel and junior Isaac Perez each made one reception for 30 and 10 yards, respectively. Meanwhile, junior Daniel Baneham connected on his lone PAT attempt.
The Tornados visited Marshall High in Los Angeles in a nonleague game on Friday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Hoover will visit Nogales High in La Puente for a nonleague game on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
