YMCA Quarterback Club Welcomes Sports-Writing Icon

First published in the Sept. 3 print issue of the Glendale News-Press.

Iconic Los Angeles Times prep sportswriter Eric Sondheimer was the featured speaker at the Glendale YMCA Quarterback Club’s second meeting of the season Tuesday at the Oakmont Country Club. He spoke about his recent trip to Texas for a game, past visits for club meetings and of his relationship with late St. Francis High School head coach Jim Bonds. As for his trip to Texas to see St. John Bosco face Allen High School, it wasn’t much of a game according to Sondheimer — a 52-14 win for SJB — but the local barbecue spots and friendly tailgaters helped made the trip worthwhile. David Viar, the recently retired president and superintendent of Glendale Community College, will be the featured speaker at the meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The club is still accepting new members at $50 each and the buffet lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. The cost for lunch is $30.
